It seems like whenever I’m on other websites, every once in awhile, some troll will make up having AS as an excuse for their behavior. This spreads negative stereotypes about Aspies because often people think the troll is telling the truth and often they first hear about Asperger’s this way. Thus, even the regulars of a site, who appear to be smart and open-minded, suddenly talk as if anyone with Asperger’s is stupid or use terms like ass burgers. Suddenly, an environment that appeared to be “safe” and friendly suddenly reveals its ugly face as being bigoted toward Aspies. This seriously pisses me off because I feel it’s a reminder of just how misunderstood Asperger’s still is and how people generally tend not to find out if there’s any good in something they hear bad about. Yet there seems to be nothing that I can directly do about it. It also reinforces my view that everyone are bigots when it comes to something.

AS is an easy target.

Let them have their shallow victory.

This is one of the reasons that I stay very true to my profile, and choose: "Not sure if I have it or not".
If I'm not diagnosed, but suspect it, then I believe it's only fair to say that I'm not sure!

The internet isn't a safe place. I don't believe that there exists a safe place on earth.
Some people, frighteningly many, just makes the life sad for people with disabilities.
Among these people are also diagnosed people (ADHD, Aspergers, Tourrettes...).
It's sad, but true.

On the other hand, there must be members like you who have Asperger's and are well-behaved, well-liked members of the community. If they said they had Asperger's as well, do you think that could counteract the bad impressions the trolls made?

Rest assured, there are many trolls that actually have Asperger's Syndrome.

The brains of trolls come in many shapes, structures and sizes.

I'm not sure if you are talking to me?
Anyway, I think it would be possible but only if there were many of these people.
Unfortunately I don't think there is, at least I haven't met many yet.

I have yet to meet a guy with Asperger's in real life who is not intelligent and well-behaved. As a result, when I see people fooling around on the Internet and then using Asperger's as an excuse, I don't believe them.

No doubt there are trolls who really do have Asperger's and still use it as an excuse for their behavior, but I suspect that most trolls who claim to have it only do it just to put AS down because they know the other members in a community will eat that right up. However, I can't prove for sure that most trolls who say they have Asperger's are lying. It wouldn't do anyone any favors to pretend that no bad Aspies exist and try to act like those that are out there don't have Asperger's. It seems quite easy to pose as a minority group and troll to reinforce negative stereotypes about them.

I wished there were more good known Aspies in other communities, but it seems like when the trolls show up, they are nowhere to be found to counteract the regulars feeding into what the troll wants, putting Aspies down because of stupid stereotypes like faking Asperger's or being stupid by default. It's like the regulars don't know how to separate a person from a condition that they may or may not have. It's like the trolls actually prove the stupidly of those that are supposed to be smart and bringing out their hidden hatred.

QFT

I have known some aspie trolls and that was how I learned to not judge trolls because lot of them are actually nice people. They just do it because they're bored and they find it funny. I've tried it at several places and it's not my thing. I grow board of it quick. I haven't done any trolling since January.

how exactly does this transpire?

does the troll say "i'm sorry i offended you; i can't help it - i have AS"?

if someone had this kind of self-awareness, couldn't they manage what they say a little better in the first place?

i guess that's what makes the person a troll. sounds like they are just deliberately spreading negative information. like everyone else, people with Asperger's come in all shapes & sizes. there is a difference between being blunt and literal (method of communication) and being a jerk (personality).

i'm starting to spot the trolls here. the ones who get an account just to post something inflammatory but speak as if they are seeking confirmation or advice. then they sit back and let everyone argue about what they have written.

i wonder what motive these people have. it's very cruel.

Something along those lines, or "I lied about having AS lol!"

I suspect that most (but not all) trolls who claim to have AS really don't because trolls tend to be very well aware of what their doing and almost always play off their trolling as regular posting. As for the actual Aspie trolls, they may feel that because Asperger's generally means social misunderstandings, that they can feel free to intentional start something and feel that AS is some kind of protection against misbehavior. I feel at least one topic around here as of this post time from a member with only seven posts from a day or two ago is a troll, although it could also be a case of someone feeling down and trying to bring everyone else down. The term troll seems to gone beyond someone purposely starting trouble to anyone that someone believes is an idiot or annoying.

the topic you are referring to (i think) is one of the ones i was referring to as well, but it's not the first post i have seen that follows that pattern.

I've known a couple guys who wer officially diagnosed with AS & wer using it as an excuse to be giant A-holes. One of the guys was a younger less extreme version of Gary Busey. I think he may of had other issues as well that wer not diagnosed like bipolar disorder & extreme ADHD. Sometimes the docs do not correctly diagnose things & it makes others with the conditions look bad by comparison
