Do you ever get confused as to whether you are experiencing stomach cramps or if you're just feeling hungry? I do. Sometimes my stomach will feel funny and growl, I'll think "hm, I must be hungry". But then, when I go to eat something, I feel like gagging. Today, my stomach felt funny and growled and I thought "I'm not being fooled by this again" but it went on for a couple of hours, so I gave in and made a salad. I wound up eating the whole thing and the growling went away. This is so frustrating for me! I wish I could tell the difference between being hungry and having cramps.

Anybody else have similar problems?

Yes, I find such feelings confusing, in my case it usually is just plain old hunger.

No. When I am hungry, my stomach feels like the Grand Canyon, big and empty. With stomach pain, it feels like there is something in there, but it just doesn't fit.

One time I had stomach cramps, and it was terrible. So I got up out of bed early enough to actually eat before I went to work.

I turned my stomach inside out several times later on at work, must've been the flu.

When I'm hungry my stomach sucks in and growls, and I feel a bit tingly. When I have pain the stomach is hard and sore. Your stomach always growls but you hear it more when it is empty, because the stomach walls squeeze together to digest food, but there's none there. It's called borborygmi.
Sometimes when you eat when you're hungry you feel more sick. Try eating a bit slower.

I can't tell when I am hungry. It sounds weird. Sometimes I feel hungry when I am full and about to vomit. Other times I don't feel hungry in spite of feeling my stomach growl.

I've had this occasionally, and eating then makes the pain worse and makes me feel sick. But in most cases it's because I'm already sick. Far more often I'll forget to eat and not remember whether I have or not, and it makes my stomach hurt. Usually I figure it out and eat something, though it goes away if I ignore it. Most of the time I just avoid that problem.

I think I'm supposed to feel something called "hungry" before I feel the pains of not having eaten, but I don't. Luckily at work both my fellow programmers DO feel hunger and remind me ("Wanna go for lunch?" me(looking at my watch): "Yeah, I guess I must be hungry now..." ;) )

I actually have 4 regular alarms on my mobile: 06:32 "wake up" (and take the first Ritalin), 06:51 "stand up" (in case i ignored the first), 11:45 "Lunch" (and take the midday pill), 15:55 "Go home" (and take the last pill). But they're all too easy to just dismiss and forget. At work they think it's hilarious that I have an alarm to remember to eat..

A TIP: Bananas is nice if you're unsure if you are hungry or sick;
one banana will rise your blood sugar level within 10 minutes or so enough to stop the hunger pain somewhat if that is the problem (and it's easy to shove one down even if you feel really sick and not in the mood for any food at all);
and it has a not-too-bad consistency for vomiting, if it turns out you were wrong and actually were sick ;) (cereals is a lot worse in reverse)

Strangely when I smoke sigarettes (back when I smoked regularily, and when I'm having a lapse), i DO get a sensation of hunger (as people who can feel it explains it) if i forget to smoke,
while if i forget to drink coffee or use "snus" (sweedish oral tobacco) it just gives my a headache (that's how you spell it, looks strange to me now...??).

that is how "snus" is spelled, now how is it pronounced? "sn-uss" or "snoose"?
