has anyone else seen that movie? i think it has interesting parallels with living with autism... buddy doesn't know how the world works because he grew up at the north pole. as a result, he has some very strange social habits, doesn't understand where he can and can't go, takes everything literally, and has some very specialized skills (as seen in the snowball fight and when he "saves christmas" or whatever)

thoughts?

Yes. Even the elves think he is weird. If he were to retaliate physicaly, I could relate. Something about a violent elf isn't exctaly Christmas matarial but most stories most people consider "heart warming" to me are "stomach churning". But yes, he does seem to have AS traits. Rhudoplh and Herbie the Elf in Rhudoph seem very ASish too... well at least Herbie, Rhudoplh's "disability" was obvious.

Yes, he's an autistic elf. Of course...

I think threads like this get silly TBH, but Elf is still a good film.

While I don't think he has AS, I do see some parallels. I'm wired differently, he was raised differently and I see the distinction between the two.

My thoughts are that I agree with you that it has "interesting parallels".

I was afraid this was going to be another "does this person have AS?" thread...which apparently others are turning it into :?

Elf is a great film; though he was different because he was, well, an elf, his problems in New York kind of reminded me of some problems someone with moderate autism might have.
I typically detest comparing fictional characters with ASD characteristics, but I noticed this thread and just had to say something. :P
