assessment results??

Hi there,
I had an aspergers assessment done last year, it took 4 hrs, several questionairs, and cost almost $800.
The conclusion was that I do have aspergers. My question is to others who have had an assessment done. What kind of a report did you recieve? The reason I ask is because when I left the psychologist gave me a brief letter to give to my doctor.
A specialist I am seeing at the moment rang and asked for a more detailed report, and was told I would have to go back to see the psychologist, pay more money to get any more detailed report......is this right??
What kind of report have others recieved from an assessment??
Any help would be appreciated.

Nothing at all. I'm sure I can get, and I have done this, my psychic to write a note saying that I have AD. I could get the same from anyone I've seen.

I received nothing.

Really....nothing from the psychologist.......so did they just say "yes you have aspergers and that was it??

Yep. They just said it.

I've seen a few (psychics and psychos), and all just said it, rather than giving anything to me. I've had them sign papers and such saying that I have it, but that's it.

@ those of you who didn't get one: Sometimes you've got to ask for it. Reports like that, at least here in the states are not often offered freely. But, if you ask, especially for something like this, you just might get what you need.

@ the OP: did you ask why the specialist wants a more detailed report? What sort of specialist is it? Not to raise your hackles, but I'd be wanting more information about why this doctor wants or needs a more detailed report. Might sound paranoid, but the first thing that crossed my mind was "I wonder if he's thinking about challenging the DX." As I said, that's more than likely just my own distrust for the medical profession talking, but I would still want to know why. I want to know everything my doctors are thinking and why. I don't trust doctors who won't answer my questions, or act huffy if I ask them too many.

Twelve pages, rather detailed. I insisted on it while I was there because I wanted to know as much as possible about myself. How much extra are they asking? If it's just for assembling the report, an extra $50 mightn't be entirely out of the question. But you can always ask to get a Xerox of your medical records there, rather than a formal report; and that, they should only charge you for paper and copying fees.

It wasn't for the purpose of diagnosis (I had had that for years by that point) but for vocational rehabilitation. (Odd that they call it "rehab" even when you're not recovering from anything, isn't it?)

The report was fairly useful; and I picked out some relative weaknesses and strengths I didn't realize I had.

I will be seeing him in two weeks and I want to get something for work, actually.

I got nothing in writing; my psychiatrist just said "Blah blah blah... some kind of autism... blah blah... Asperger's syndrome, which is where I think you'd fall... blah blah... I don't think it's full-blown autism...etc etc".

I am going for an assessment August 6th what should I ask for when done with everything? Can I get all my medical paperwork xerox without sending it to a psychologist?

I got a long-ish report, like Callista did. My psychologist did it after my evaluation, when i was diagnosed.. I didn't even have to ask for it. The first page listen the diagnoses that i was given(AS, Inattentive ADHD, GAD, and Depressive Disorder-NOS)... Then tt had general information about how i am and her impressions of me, the AS criteria that i meet, a little about my ADHD traits... Then at the end it has the results from all the tests i took.

I paid $400-$600 (i cant remember which now) for my Asperger's diagnoses assessment (which was done by two professionals at once)

I had been told that if I had Asperger's I would just end up getting something saying I had it (I took that to mean not really a report but just a confirmation).

I think maybe due to a court case i have going on, they ended up giving me a full 5 page report on me afterwards.

My report covers.. page 1 is reason for assessement, assessment procedure (eg where it took place, who was with me, who'd filled out forms on me etc), page 2 assessment outcome, page 3 a big section on me which talks about my socialisation issues, page 4 communication, resistance to change, interests, .. and the last page is on summary and their recommendations for me.

As i said thou.. maybe i only got this full report as originally they'd lead me to believe I wouldnt get one, due to the court case

I personally think (some medical places work like this) that you should be able to phone up and ask for them to do a full report for your specialist. They should still have all the forms you filled out while there and any info you provided filed.

Note thou that when someone wants a complete report from a various specialist, they usualy do charge for it (due to the time taken for typing it etc etc). It thou shouldnt be as much as your initial assessment thou as they already have the info for it.
(I know this is the way many of my psychologists work when it comes to reports, i know one of my psychologists said that she could do me a full report on another issue i have for $90 but some do charge a lot more (she was just going to get the info out of my file, do report and just have it typed up).

At end of my assessment report.. it says that anyone can contact them to discuss with my permission, any aspects of the assessment or report.

Can someone who has gone through an assessment tell me what to ask for so I can call them up before I take the tests to ask for documentation. If I have to pay $1,100.00 for this test I want everything that is coming to me hey maybe some illustrations as well.

Some questions to ask

1/ Will i be getting a full report after the assessment (a full report will have to be posted to you after the assessment as they are long and typed out properly) or will i just get a written aknowledgement that I have Asperger's if that is the case? You may want to ask how long this report is likely to be? (so you can compare what you are told with what ones here have said).

2/ If they say its just going to be a written aknowlegement.. i'd be asking them how much then for a full report? (i guess it all depends on if you need a full report or not)

3/ Ask if after the assessment if medical personal can contact them if any clarification on anything is needed to do with the report or your assessment?

I'd expect that price you said to be certainly a full report.. but make sure.

4/ Would it be helpful to take someone with me to the assessment? (i found that to be of value)

5/ How long will the assessment go for? (the one i had i was booked for 2 hrs with two specialists observing me at once. See below.. all the forms thou had already been done and read to them prior to the assessment so they didnt have to go throu any of that. so it just was talking with them. The original poster had a 4 hr assessment.. i assume in OPs case they did forms while there).

In my case they sent me all the forms that had been filled to my home.. and they were filled in and sent back in advance by myself and others who knew me.. so none of my appointment was wasted on trying to fill in forms... Others get people to fill them in during the actual assessment.. so you may want to ask about that.
