I've noticed in myself and others with Asperger's that the idea of eating in order to sustain the body seems overly complex and unnatural. I constantly feel overwhelmed by the task of keeping in shape, staying healthy, eating right, managing mental health, etc.

Since I believe we are souls from a different world/dimension/planet or whatever it is, I sense that the reason for this lack of understanding for care of the human body is a result of not living as many lives in such a physically demanding environment. Does anyone feel the same way or have any input?

Some people try to rationalize that it's a manifestation of ascetic body-denying Gnosticism, but it seems like a lot of this kind of incompetence on the material plane stems from executive dysfunction.

I generally feel uncomfortable in my body on a regular basis. Not because I am ashamed or don't think I look nice, in fact I think I would be considered attractive, but because it all just feels so unnatural sometimes. I am always cold, or tired, or hungry, or experiencing sensory overload, etc. And simple things like hygiene rituals seem absurd to me. Our current culture seems obsessed with personal hygiene to a point that I think it is actually hurting their bodies. I like your theory that we are souls from another realm, unfamiliar with these human forms. That makes a lot of sense to me.

Yeah, I wish I could be a brain in a jar, pure thought would be enough if not for bodily needs/desires.

As a person with autism, I just try to eat less, avoid getting fat and maybe bathe twice a week or so while using some very strong deodorant. That's it. A lot of times I drink coffee and tea and take pain pills to avoid feeling sensation in my body. Reducing the size of my body is important to me so that I don't get in the way of other people, and sometimes I wear stuff for incontinence because I can't always control that. HTH.

Don't worry about this obsession with taking a bath every day as long as you have Mitchum. Also one thing that helps if hair bothers you is "Gorilla Snott" hair gel especially if your hair is long, curly etc and you need to keep it out of the way from touching your skin.

it seems you've got this down to a science. I shower everyother day reluctantly because my hair gets greasy and I don't like the acne I get if I don't shower. Thanks for the advice. Interesting to hear your perspective.

I am actually nearly the opposite--I see upkeep of the body as an offshoot of my perfectionism. I bathe every day, rigidly control what I eat, and work out nearly every day. When it comes to bathing, though, I'm not really a fan of scented products--so I get unscented products, for the most part (still working on finding an unscented shampoo I like).
