Hi
I am wanting to start my own autism and aspergers club at my college. What do you think would be important topics, ideas or issues to use for this?

Hmmm. I don't know. Maybe social difficulties and eye contact?

i think you should plan an activity and let conversation topics come up naturally. True- us Aspies sometimes have trouble starting up conversations- but this usually not as big of an issue in a aspie group (I am usually very comfortable around other Aspies). Maybe you could cook something, watch a movie, do volunteer work etc.

Sense it's at a college; I would suggest talking about issues college students may face like social, romance, financial, leaning & coping strategies to help in class

Why not just do fun things?

another topic would be once you are out of school what to expect in the NT world and how to navigate in it effectively.

What some of us Aspeis consider "fun" is stuff that we do by ourselves so only doing social fun things may not work well. Group activities are nice but a support group type approach mite help a lot more

I'd also try to network with other clubs and organizations of all types- social, informational, etc.; maybe even consider having speakers open to the college, but that can take a lot of paper work and effort!!

I've been in both "support group" and "social group" arrangements, and it seems to me the "social group" type arrangement is a great deal more fun. "Support groups" seem to gather a lot of woe-is-me and inferiority complexes.

I've been thinking about the same thing at my own college, but I don't know enough people to do it.

Instead, you all could display (discretely) what you do, akin to an exhibit &/or poster. For ex: Many Autists/Aspies are really good at math/science - you could give a synopsis of talents for your University. Artwork is another forte - make an exhibit. Also, April is Autism Awareness Month and you could have an event to share with your University. For ex: Make GFCF cookies/breads. Or, show what known Aspies have contributed throughout history to the sciences/math and the arts.

@Radiofixr < timing that pizza delivery guy for Mika's meeting > :)

did someone order a pizza? Image

now for your club...just have fun. you can play board games, watch movies, have bake sales, and even do something for autism awareness month. keep it organized and be a strong leader.

Yeah, like how to manage your career once you get out in the world. You could have guest speakers like pros who help autistic people find work and support them in their positions (some disability offices have people like this) or have older people on the spectrum come talk about what career challenges/potentialities might lie ahead.
