I think I participated, but I'm not sure.
I probably didn't at all times.

Memorizing songs is simple, and so is singing. I sing often.

When I was in reception class (kindergarten), my school had something called "assembly," and each class in turn had to present a song or two.
Whenever it was my class' turn, I would simply go up and stand there, not singing or doing anything. One day, I noticed the teacher marking me down for not having participated in assembly (and to this day, I don't know for sure that that's what she was doing, but it's what I thought I saw), and so from then on, I decided to "mime." That is to say, I opened and closed my mouth at random, because I thought it would make it look like I was singing. I didn't mouth the words, or even move my mouth in time with the music - just open and shut (I probably looked like a goldfish). I never understood why they still marked me down.
In short, we were supposed to sing in kindergarten, yes. Did I? Not once.

aw. i was the first one to learn to read in my class and the only person who could read well for a year or two so i was always 'narrator' in those class assembly things. i remember reading 'the hungry caterpillar' infront of the whole school whilst my class just sang the odd song inbetween haha. it was the same at christmas- i read the nativity story whilst they sang little donkey :D

I never sang (not even once) when I was in kindergarten.

My teacher thought I have little mental retardation at first (and so my parents) ,but they did me a kind of intelligence test (kinda of an iq test but with cubes and toys) and I passed it normally (yet with no word).

btw, till to this day, I never sing, I listen to music a lot but I can't memorize the songs and sing them afterward.

It isnt a bad thing if you cant sing. As long as you enjoy the music thats all thats important.
I didnt and still dont like being forced to sing. I guess thats why I liked chorus that way I was around other people who just wanted to sing.

I'm going to school as a music student, voice major, so I sing a lot. I don't remember whether I participated in kindergarten. I seem to remember not being able to pick up the words fast enough so I didn't sing along so I didn't look silly singing the wrong words. I'm much better at picking up music now. I learn it quickly and memorize it easily.

Funny you should bring up this subject. When I was in Kindergarten and my mother met with my teacher, her only complaint was that I was not singing with the class. I would stay at the back of the group and mumble. So, my teacher would force me to stand at the front so she could see and hear me.

I sang all the time when I was little. I liked to dress up in princess gowns and sing to disney movies. I went through periods where I would only sing what I wanted to say.

I'm really glad I'm over this, I don't have a singing-voice.

I know in kindergarten we had to get on stage and sing, but I don't know how I felt about it.

Why is singing so common in kindergarten? You'd think they'd find something better and more beneficial to collaborate on, like a project that actually helps someone.

I loved singing. :D
I can still sing now.
My ability to memorise songs (or any kind of music) is exceptionally good.

The few times we sang anything, I was VERY quiet.

However, I was the first one to learn to read, also, so sometimes the teacher would have me read to the class while she did paperwork. It was one of the few things that calmed me down and helped me to stop feeling physically ill.

I can memorize songs now after hearing them several times and reading the lyrics while listening to them.

My bf tells me I'm on pitch, but I don't know if that means I'm "good" at singing.

I was reading, too, but never aloud, always to myself. I think I simply didn't want people to look at me or hear my voice, whether it was singing, reading or anything else. Funny, though; our assemblies never had any reading or anything. Just songs.

Yes, my music teacher would sing "hello <my name>" then I would have to sing back her name in the same note.

I remember us doing a song called each of us is a flower and alot of folk or traditional songs. I loved it.
