State law says your cognitivly disabled and socially disabled if is ur diagnosed with AS.
You could sue if they fire you after u tell them u have a disability and are eligible for state checks.

How do you feel about this? Do you beleive this?Would you put yourself down like this?

What do you beleive about your own mental abilities, Talk to me!

I wouldn't say it's a very serious disability in the grand scheme of things, but it's certainly worthy of protection from unfair dismissal.

The invisible disabilities in general need more protection. It's much easier to excuse firing someone because he's socially clumsy than firing someone because he's a quadriplegic.

And yes, autism is a form of cognitive disability. (Unless you use the term "cognitive disability" to include only conditions that cause a low IQ. Autism only does that some of the time.)

Why don't you get yourself some checks, Corp! I believe that compulsively posting provocative, irrelevant, and poorly spelled messages on online forums MUST be a disorder of some kind. You might have yourself a goldmine there!

Dyingofpoetry 5, Corp900 0. (i.e. my mental abilities far exceed yours.)

Yes, we should be protected from being dismissed solely because of our Asperger's. Just as you shouldn't dismiss someone just for having brown hair, or Down's Syndrome, or whatever.

It all depends on how you view disability. If you view it based on the social model of disability (the idea that there's no such thing as disability inherent to the individual, but rather, an interaction between a society that demands something and an individual who can't provide it, or can't provide it as well as average), then yes, it often is a disability. That's not a bad thing.

If you view it based on the rather conventional model of disability as a flaw inherent to the individual, then no, it's not a disability.

Heyyyyyyy loooooooook.......... I think you posted my brain scan from earlier, so gimme that back XD. And why has there been a huge influx of trolls lately, its like they are trying to oust me from my bridge.... I love my bridge far to much to give it up though, so the great troll wars shall thus commence.... now who is with me!! ! *looks around dumbfounded as the only thing he hears are a bunch of crickets. I am the official WP troll, we all know that much XD.

well, now that I got that fit of silliness out of me, time to put on my serious face. I do agree with what some have said, that those with the 'invisible' disabilities tend to get overlooked far too much. I should know since Im going through the bureaucratic hell that is me trying to get back onto SSI/Disability. It seems standards here have changed from last, the other day I ended up having to go to the hospital for the state required physical. Granted I ended up almost flipping out at the doctor because of remarks made, such as "You are too young to be disabled" and the "You cant have a form of autism because you dont look like a ret*d". Granted by the time the physical was done I felt like burning down the damn hospital and various state facilities. Now Im back to waiting for bureaucracy to hurry its ass up, as its been 11 months of waiting so far.

You can only sue if you can prove (in a court) that their actions discriminated on the grounds of your disability, and that the discrimination is not reasonable - there is a comprehensive website about the Americans with Disabilities Act at http://www.ada.gov/ (and similar if you are outside the US).

Mostly, disability is treated as true / false condition - all disability is disability, without grades of severity - so yes, if you are officially assessed as disabled then you receive whatever benefits and protections are afforded to all disabled people.

I see Asperger's as more of a social and sensory disability, not much of a cognitive disability. Only because my Asperger's affects my sensory and socially, which is why I am not working. But, in in order to find out what jobs out there I could do without having my problems interfere with the job is extremely difficult. It took me 10 years to figure out what type of job I wanted, but now I am going to be a Histology Technician. But, I do have to go to college and part of my Asperger's is that I am unable to work and go to school at the same time, due to emotional stress, which can also be part of Asperger's. But there are varying degrees of Asperger's and since mine is mild, I do not have it as bad.

I hold that someone should be declared "cognitively disabled" if they are unable to type complete words, particularly when the words are three letters long and the "txtspk" contraction saves a grand total of two keystrokes.

Further, any discussion of Corp900's alleged "point" is futile unless we know which state he/she is in. (And by this, I mean political subdivision of the United States, not mental condition...)

I'm not really much, for pity parties. I just deal with my AS, and enjoy my day. I might as well enjoy myself. You only live once. :)

Then that would mean the whole world would be considered that then, lol. Everyone with their text speaking and the making mistakes when typing. I think that disability would be called typoism, lol.
