Is there often a lesser degree of cognitive impairment in somehow with AS and no ADHD? I had many of the characteristics of ADHD when I was DXd as a child, mostly losing things, meltdowns, poor coordination and motor skills, and hyperactivity. I had social difficulties, I had some friends but I was very shy and they were the ones who kept the friendships going, I didn't really start approaching other kids until about the fourth grade, and I was usually told I was weird xD. I was also a HUGE worrier and had obsessive thoughts and behaviors. I don't believe I had too much difficulty with inattentiveness but I did have major problems with authority, and I NEVER had a problem with my short term or route memory, that has always been my strength.

As and adult I am more organized and don't really know if I still meet the criteria for ADHD, so I wonder if I really met it as a child or ADHD was just the closest thing that fit me. I have pretty minor cognitive difficulties compared to what I have seen many ADHDers describe. The last psychiatrist I saw said that I seem to focus way too intensely to have ADHD, My main issues now are anxiety, obsessive worrying, difficulty staying in contact with pretty much anyone, and constantly being sucked into my own interests/world.

You may simply have mild ADHD in addition to the AS. But yeah, lots of Aspies have ADHD as a comorbid. I do; I compensate by over-organizing, and take medication to help me break out of perseveration. They kind of mix into one another for me; it's not surprising that I have traits that can be attributed to both things, because many people have said that ADHD is a Spectrum-related condition, even though it's not on the autism spectrum itself.
