Is there a wedsite that has a reliable list of the correct and commonly used abbreviations for all the "disorders" we discuss here on the forum.

I realised too late that I used HSD for Hyper Sensory Disorder instead of SIDD for Sensory Intergration Dysfunction Disorder. HSD is something entirely different. I'd prefer not to make this mistake again. :?

I think a good list will go a long way to helping not just myself but other forum users too.

HSD = Horizontal Situation Display right?
http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/HSD
Or maybe the one listed two spots above it (and it sounds like the same thing to me - lol)?

Hmm.. Correct me if I'm wrong, and add if you have more...

The Basics:
NT = Neurotypical. Generally used around here to describe someone without ASD.
AS = Aspreger's Syndrome
ASD = Autism Spectrum Disorder (wide range of them, including AS and PDD-NOS)
PDD-NOS = (pervasive) Developmental Delay. Not (otherwise) Specified.
ADHD/ADD = Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder * Not sure if ADD/ADHD is the same thing.

I wouldn't worry about the correct abbreviations to be honest. If you use 'AS' here, it means aspergers to the majority. In a general medical setting, it is far more likely to mean Aortic Stenosis, Asherman's Syndrome or a whole host of others. ASD means autistic spectrum disorder, but it also means atrial septal defect... the list of confusing abbreviations goes on.

Basically, it's probably best to spell out what you are referring to initially and then put your chose abbr. in brackets and use it from then on (i.e. 'aspergers syndrome (AS)' or whatever term you wish to abbreviate) and always do this for each seperate article/letter/blog post etc...
