This hasn't occured to me until just now. If an otherwise healthy aspie who takes no medications of any kind donates blood, does he risk harming the recipient? I have donated a few times since i became eligible at 17 and thought nothing of my aspergers. I hope i haven't harmed anyone by donating. I do not take any medication and besides AS, im in near perfect health (maybe 15 pounds overweight)

This occurred to me today, because i was planning on donating tomorrow, they are giving away tickets to the state fair and one of my co-workers wants to go.

Thoughts?

No. Asperger's doesn't transmit through blood. Safe to donate.

:lmao: Sorry, I know you're asking a serious question, but that actually gave me a good laugh. No, a disorder of the brain that's forms prior to birth is not a blood-borne pathogen, else there'd have been an honest-to-gods cure by now. I don't think anybody can absorb your DNA through blood and pass that DNA on to future children. The idea could make for a cool horror story though, now that I think about it. Heeey...

Anyhow, if there were any danger of that, it would have been on that list of a thousand personal questions they ask you before they stick the needle in.

I used to donate blood regularly, but in my state, they won't let you donate if you've been tattooed within the past year, which will probably count me out for the rest of my life. Pity, my blood's perfectly good and a fairly rare type. Of course it does have ink in it. :D

Asperger's and autism is not a virus, bacteria or similar. You can't be "contaminated" by getting AS blood and/or other bodily fluids.

I know its not "pathogenic" per se, i was just wondering about DNA interference, if having another persons DNA in you can affect your DNA in any way.

I don't see why it would be a problem to donate blood unless you have some other illness.

AS isn't a virus, so I don't see any harm, in you donating your blood.

Don't spread false information, AS is contagious. Use protection for your own safety!
