I'm a little bit of the same way. For example, I kind of LIKE reading in a noisy, crowded airport (a lot of stimulation, it kind of becomes white space, the airport is a safe place, I can zone in on my book). the familiar book, familiar enough, I kind of know where the author is going, and the unfamiliar people watching, taken at times of my own choosing and durations of my own choosing, makes for a very good mix, somehow it all works
That's interesting. If there's white noise or close to it, it's actually kind of soothing. But given two, three, four or more discrete sound signals vying for my attention, and suddenly I'm horribly distracted, and my mind has to work like crazy to keep it's attention on one, or attempt to pay attention to all of them.
