Seems he is more interested in directing.
he also appears to have allied himself with a genocidal organisation.

Like it or not, it's his forum and he has the exclusive rights to the http address - right of ownership trumps disagreement with politics up to the point where legal or military mobilisation is involved.

They are talking about the channel on IRC, not the website.

My bad, I didn't give enough consideration to the # included in the title.

I'd much prefer it if the +F flag was given to someone like Arsanerit

Not knowing the second thing about IRC is one thing.

Not taking the time to listen to the views represented in his channel is another.

When choosing ops, a founder should carefully consider who can be trusted, who will be fair, and who has a degree of skill with settling issues between people, be it by diffusing anger, or by force. Another point of consideration is whose position will be well received by people. Even the very best op is going to have problems if nobody accepts they have the position.

Also, removal of ops who are well settled and accepted is going to cause a nightmare situation. This deliberation can only be adequately achieved through observation over time. Knowing the people, what they want, how they want it, and remembering that the only feedback likely to reach an absent founder is negative feedback. Regardless of how good things are, you'll never get the thousand compliments. Only the hundred complaints.

Communication is also essential. A team of people administrating a service needs to stay in close communication. If the left hand doesn't know what the right hand's doing, how is it going to work?

I make all these points, because, in 2010 alone, Alex has failed to deliver on every single one of them, throwing his own channel into chaos on 2 occasions. This led to 2 great ops standing down from duty, and a major outcry both times.

I believe a viable solution would be to ask the op team (both current and former) who they would like to see lifted to an equal position in #wrongplanet to Alex, and for the two co-founders to agree on issues before relaying them to the team. The co-founder would also liaise back from the team to Alex. the entire point of the operation is to ensure a steady dialogue between the channel and it's current sole founder, something Alex has failed to establish thus far. Being elected by the op team ensures the co-founder will be someone they can easily work with. This way, there is nothing sudden and there can be no catalyst for chaos.

((((hugs))))

I have a hard time digesting any cooperation with Autism Speaks. It's not like WP is set out to be an activist site, BUT cooperating with them is about as bad as cooperating with Scientology. Both are cults. Both are powerful. Both are formal. Both claim to have The Truth. Both violate peoples rights.

But... through the Internet era, I have seen MANY sites/communities change or sell out. Unfortunately that is the nature of the online world.

Another nature is migration. People constantly migrate to other sites. So if Alex doesn't shape up, people are going to leave. Yea, it IS his site, but people also have the freedom to up and say enough.

So not like someone can take over this.... unless Alex thinks is a good idea and I doubt he does.

Running an online community is a pretty big responsibility. Its more than just "This is my site!"

I'm pretty sure this poll isn't going to sway him.

Ugh.....I think some variation on Godwin's law is afoot when we starting defining Autism Speaks as a GENOCIDAL organization.

I get the results of the poll, but I have never voted. Have some social leaders taken to voting for me?

I think Alex should do or not do whatever it is he wants, for he does, and it has worked out well.

Excluding other points of view is the worst thing that can be done, by people who Know The Truth! And will even vote for you.

Keeping things from becoming a platform for any one point of view is the greatness of WP.

Now I know that the Truth is clear to some social and political groups, and WP seems like a soapbox that they could rule, but it has not happened yet, and there have been many failed tries.

So who voted for me?

I wonder what we're talking about.

There's a website (this one) and something else?

Whatever, Alex is supposed to do whatever Alex chooses to do. He made this place.

Is this an insurrection? A hostile takeover? What's going on?

#wrongplanet on Freenode. It's the IRC "chatroom".

I've never been in this chatroom, but as someone with a good deal of experience with IRC, I can tell you, as long as there are ops around, the owner of the channel is generally irrelevant provided they aren't a tyrant.

In addition to the powers of ops and masters, the owner can ban masters, and that's really about it.

Wonder how long before this thread is deleted/locked and/or the critics get BANNED for 'breaking the rules'

+10000 on this. If this site keeps hugging Autism Speaks, I'm off.

I wasn't aware of the proposed/impending cooperation with that group of people.

Any member of WP (including Alex) is free to align themself with any organization or 'movement'.

I'm a WP member for the same reason that people rob banks.......

WP is where the ASPIES are (regardless of the personal views of the owners and 'managers') and I will remain a member as long as there are people here that I find interesting and likeable

..........and in my opinion there are plenty of people here who fit that description
