When I was in school I used to CONSTANTLY have to use music in order to concentrate on my homework. It helped me to focus and keep my thoughts in one place.

When I attempted to learn how to drive I always had to have the car radio on as well, or else my mind would just wander and I'd get close to having accidents. During my driving test I told the instructor I wanted to have the radio on but he would have none of that and cut it off. That irritated me. Needless to say I failed the test 5x.,

I also cannot go out and run errands without being plugged into my iPod the whole time. If I don't have it I feel like the world is totally intruding on me and being way too loud.

Anyone else like this or is it just me?

I'm the same exact way with driving. I always put the radio on very loud and it really helps me focus. My parents think that doing this is dangerous but I find that it makes me such a better driver. When it isn't on like you said, my mind starts to drift and I just don't feel as comfortable in general.

Yeah, other people always gave me crap saying "How can you concentrate with this music on?"

I said "I CAN"T concentrate without it!"

No one could understand!

It is difficult to concentrate when it is too quiet. A crowd is a good background noise, but hard to find a place to work in. Music is easier to use.

I need to have my music constantly going. If it's not going, I have a hard time concentrating, on the task, that's on hand. My music gets me though my days.

Exactly the same here, but I only failed the driving test twice :)

I can focus better on my work with music on. But in the car it's opposite, when I'm searching for the way I'll usually turn the music way down. Then again, I've got a noisy car (no sound proofing) which in itself drowns out much of the distracting low volume sounds.

I didn't start doing better in school until I started to draw instead of taking notes and listening to music while doing assignments because my mind would go everywhere unless I had something else to focus my thoughts into. I found it helped me concentrate and my grades went up and up and up, but the teachers yelled at me and told me I was being lazy. So unless I had a teacher that let me do those things I did extremely poorly in class because my thoughts would be all over the place.

I think that I'll let my background music, help me to focus on getting my chores done, so I won't have to do them, later. I've got my bed, dishes and mopping.
