Well I get my results Monday the 9th. My mom had to fill out a couple page Q&A. She also wrote in the notes section the following.

It took me a long time to learn to walk
It took me a long time to learn to tie my own shoes
It took me a long time to learn to ride a bike without training wheels
That I would cry nonstop when I was an infant while being held
I was a very talkative child around family but withdrawn around strangers
I would avoid being around other children and had to be forced to go out and play

Well....I suppose a congratulations is in order

After all....you were fairly certain about this anyway.

A formal AS Dx should open some important doors for you which otherwise may remain closed.

Heck.....you might even be interested in participating in the autism research study i'm taking part in at the University of Pittsburgh in September. For one thing....you don't live too far from Pittsburgh. For another, they will likely cover all your travel/hotel expenses if they find you eligible. They are willing to do so for me and I live 1200 miles away from Pittsburgh. They offered to cover my hotel expenses too, but since much of my immediate family lives in Pittsburgh, (like I said...I was born and raised there) I don't need to stay in a hotel. The study takes 3-5 days to complete and they might even pay you a small amount (like $50-$100 or something I think) for your participation. Also...Pittsburgh is a decent town and like many universities, Pitt is located in a fun, culturally/intellectually-vibrant and interesting part of town.

Here's the details and contact info if you happen to be interested:

Anyway....best of luck with everything and i'd be interested to hear more details about your results if you don't mind sharing them with me.

Does anyone remember a post about people posting scans of their diagnosis? I would like to post my test results with all the names and places painted out of the jpg. 8)

Horus
They definatly show I have memory problems. It brought my IQ score down. :x The one I took in the Army did not involve anything with memory. Oh, and I probably do not have adhd.

I remember it....but that thread is buried somewhere in this forum if i'm not mistaken. It was a fairly recent thread, so it should between pages 3-10 i'm guessing.

I'm assuming they said you have problems with WORKING memory. That's very common for people with AS and like I said, your FSIQ may be somewhat lower on this latest edition of WAIS because of the increased loading of working memory and processing speed when calculating the full-scale IQ on this latest edition of WAIS.

The same thing happen to me although I did fine on working memory.Rather, it was my processing speed that partially brought down my full-scale IQ (and possibly my perceptual-organizational index score too.)

I also show no signs of ADHD and my attention-concentration is mostly within normal ranges.

Here's the thread you're referring to btw...it's on page seven currently:

I'm glad we both found it. :) I think it's an interesting thread, though I don't have a written diagnosis of my own to contribute to it.

It's always interesting to read these things IMO. I have copies of all six of the neuropsychological evals i've had in my life. Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner or a camera so I can't post them. I have shared alot of what was said on the reports several times on WP though.

:thumleft:

Well, that's mighty fine now, T. And now you are eligible for disability benefits if that need should arise :)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm beginning to think that the new WAIS bias -that its being weighted more to "working memory and speed," is based on cultural demands that society now places on individuals, i.e. speed and working memory in the work environment and keeping abreast of faster moving technologies .
So I'm doubting that this "bias" is purely scientific from the standpoint of the internal psychometrics involved.
Sure, working memory and speed are great , but so are the other "metrics".

What do you think, Horus (or anyone)?

I think you're absolutely correct. I think the bias in question may have some ignorant people (hopefully psychologists won't be among them) devaluing the "intelligence" of people with AS/ASD/NVLD once again. It also can't be great for the self-esteem of people with these disorders (at least those of us who exhibit problems with WM and/or PS) who don't know anything about how the new WAIS works. Often enough...the psychologists who administer the test fail to explain such things to people and some people don't ask too many questions about it.

I can't even say it's a positive development in the sense that it gives people a better idea of where their strengths and weaknesses may lie in workplace environments and other areas of everyday life. After all, it's not as if working memory/processing speed wasn't something that the previous editions of the WAIS measured.

I think what we're looking at here is an attempt to encapsulate significant aspects of what is known as "functional IQ" into full-scale IQ. It's certainly useful to know what your specific assets and deficits are, but I think the new loading of WM and PS is both superfluous and potentially harmful to people on the spectrum.
