How to word this query?
I'm wondering how connected ASD is with neat and tidy living space..
Are you AS? And would your place be considered 'ordered' or 'messy' by others?
Same question for NTs, I guess... as a 'control group'...

The concept of a clean room / messy room seems to come up regularly in some ADHD talk groups (although the major symptoms for the 4 ADHDs are: Inattention, Hyperactivity, and Impulsivity.

I'm a little on the messy side, but I do manage to get my place, tidy.

I don't allow messes to get started. If you pick up after yourself as soon as you're done with what you're doing (or better yet, as you go along), you don't end up with a daunting garbage heap to dismantle.

Now, my office/studio is a tad cluttered - its full of toys, but there's a place for everything and everything's in its place. As clumsy as I am, if I let things get messy, I'd trip over something and break my neck. Besides, messes ATTRACT BUGS. :eew: And I HaAaTte bugs.

I'm doomed to be messy - if I clean something, within a day or a few hours, it will be back to its original state or disorganisation. However, as long as something not hidden in a drawer(in which case it becomes akin to being trapped in a black hole) I tend to know exactly where it is.
Though, I don't tolerate any food messes or anything involving organic matter or any matter of squick.

Apart from the use of the word 'squick', that could be me typing those words.

I believe that they call that a 'floordrobe'.

I'm in agreement with everything Willard has said here, as is often the case.

Likewise. My female friend made a comment about me being the only male, heterosexual friend she has that keeps my house clean. It's not very difficult when I only use the kitchen, one bathroom, and my bedroom. I never have anyone over, so the living room, dining room, family room, half-bathroom, and other three bedrooms never get used.

My room is unorganized (and a little bit messy), but I know where everything is.

Messiness is mentioned in the Wikipedia article on ADHD predominantly inattentive:

Quote:
Disorganized personal items (sometimes old and useless to the individual) causing excessive "clutter" (in the home, car, etc.)

My study at home has piles of stuff - including my first computer from 1984. I just have narrow "deer tracks" through the stuff in my study. My office desk is covered with papers and notes from years ago.

I am a hoarder - I cannot throw anything because that would require a decision ... anxiety.

Many people with ASD are either ADHD too, or at least have sub-clinical symptoms of ADHD.

I solved the problem of messiness by disposing of all my worldly possessions except for the essentials.

This definitely aids the situation. I now only have my few articles of clothing, three pairs of shoes, my books, laptop, and stereo. I live very simplistically.

I'm diagnosed with AS and my room is filthy. The only time it gets clean is when my mom comes in here because the messes I leave drive her insane.
