If you could escape your current society where would you go?

I am thinking:

Greenland
Iceland
Sweden/Norway
New Zealand
Finland
some Northern Canadian territory/Alaska

Most of those countries/territory just exude a cold and distant but strikingly organic sense of environment, and seem to be far away from the culture of America. American culture/society just does not seem to be for me. I still feel like a foreigner in my own country, I would rather have that feeling in a REAL foreign country maybe where I have to learn a new language so I can start off on a level ground.

where would you go?

I made a thread similar to this some time back.

I also used to feel like you, but I couldn't understand why until I learned about AS.

Anyway I moved to Japan and it really helped me out. That said, I've been here a long time now and can understand the culture well enough that it irritates me. I know some Japanese, but I don't wanna study hard cuz I don't wanna understand fully what it going on around me.

I'd like to move to a different country now and start over again.

Same s**t everywhere I'm afraid! US policy reaches all around the globe!

Some cities in the US would be kinder to aspies than others?

I'm thinking San Francisco might have more of a heart than say NY or Texas?

I dunno just guessing...? :?:

America has some of the BEST people around....usually when society produces a mass consciousness, a significant amount of people will 'go the other way'. There is some very cool stuff in the US!

I have very fond memories of Americans I have known

Years ago we in New Zealand copied the Swedes and we were #2 in the world economically, Sweden was/is #1. Now we copy American policy.

South Africa for me. That's where meerkats are from and you can keep them as pets and no one gives you any trouble for it.

New Zealand is only 3 hours away, but it has beautiful mountains - and when I was there, I just had to buy a book all about the geology of New Zealand because I was so fascinated by the volcanoes and earthquakes, etc.

I loved staying by the shores of Lake Manapouri - snow-capped mountains in the background, peaceful and quiet. If I wasn't living in paradise already, I'd live there.

Yeah I know what you mean I love cold isolated places too. I lived in Canada for a while and honestly most of the country is cold and isolated. I lived in the city but went camping a few times and it was paradise. I'm from Ireland and this isn't a bad place either. Its not too much smaller than the UK but we have only a fraction of the population. The Scandinavian peninsula is the place to go IMO. The first world warm countries are usually densely populated and tourist hotspots but countries like Spain and France are pretty cool too. The only poor country I've been to is Jamaica and although its a cool country I wouldn't wanna live there cuz white skin there is like a sign saying "tourist" and you can't walk down the road without having to interact with every 2nd person. In the tourst areas its like that anyway, up in the mountains it was different it was only when we'd walk past crowds of people that one of them would shout and call us over. Its much easier interacting with people there though, they don't have the same BS social standards that they have in north America and Europe.

Have you been to Ireland? If you like cold, wet and windy climates then you'll love it here. I love this climate. To people that don't like it though Irelands a cold, wet s**thole.

There's something wrong with every place you go, so I might as well stay where I am if I don't have to leave. I wouldn't mind visiting Aldabra Atoll and the Galapagos for their giant tortoises, and other such places with interesting fauna.

I want to move to Sweden. I am part Swedish and have family connections there. I have lived in Uppsala and been to Stockholm several times. I feel like I fit in there. Maybe because I am INTJ. My N and T are weak, so this makes me sort of close to the ISFJ Swedish culture. They are sometimes called 'the Japanese of Europe' since the Japanese are also ISFJ, but there are finer details that differ. Other parts of Northern Europe (Norway, Finland, Latvia, and Estonia) are introverted too. I have Finnish friends who say their country is perfect for Aspies - no small talk and conversations are more literal. The other extreme is the ESTJ American culture. Can't stand extraverts for more than a few hours so I have trouble managing here. I also prefer cold weather to hot. I know the trade-offs of moving and I am willing to accept them.

Check out the book 'Where in the World Do I Belong' by Brent Massey if you want to learn more about culture types.
