I went to a Dir En Grey concert on Thursday night in LA, fronted by Opiate for the Masses.
I think I'm deaf now....

Dir En Grey is an excellent band. Their frontman is a little... uh,....little angry man with issues, but the band really kicks.

HorrorCore wrap like Ganksta Nip, Gravediggaz, insane clown possy and Esham. Bring on the swearing, psyco, singing about hell and killing people in a sick kind of way. These singers are mentally ill, I tell thee!

Some of my work mates think this kind of music will warp my mind. I am a logical thinker, not an irrational NT who blindly follows things or emulates behaviours without thinking.
Some even think that it makes me depressed because they sing about suffering, killing and insanity. For me it is just a laugh.

I also love heavy metal, like Pantera

I find myself listening to classic rock, and some newer rock the most, My favroites from the classic rock include Pink Floyd, Rush, Styx, Eagles, The Doors, Eric Clapton, U2, REM, and much more. I even some lighter stuff like Steven Winwood Billy Joel & Elton John too. As far as new stuff goes, I like Coldplay, Three Doors Down, Nickelback, Linkin park, Evanescene. I even get into some the 80's "hair band" type stuff to like Guns N Roses, Def Leppard, White Lion, Motley Crue, etc. After all, I grew up during this era.

I'm also big into the electronica and New wave dance stuff that came out in the eighties as well, like Level 42, Art of Noise, Soft Cell, Flock of Seagulls, DuranDuran, Gary Newman, etc.

I even listen to a bit of country & Western stuff every so often too. Alabama and Garth Brooks being a few of my my favorite performers from that genere.

I enjoy classical stuff too, like Beethoven, Vagner, Tchiacovski (sp?), and Bach. To enjoy good classical, you don't listen to it as background music, You gotta really sit down and spend time listening to this stuff, with your attention devoted to it. Only then will you truly appreciate the work and intracies that it has!

I'll pretty much listen to almost anything really, and I'm not too particular to any one type of music. Most of my listening is mainstream performers, but I defninitely enjoy hearing lesser known artists. I have a collection of over 300 or so vinyl LP's, over 400 CD's and a few cassettes (mostly copies of LP's)...can't forget over 30GB of MP3's! Listening to music is one of my favorite things to do. The only things I cannot stand are the hard-core gangsta rap stuff, and "elevator music" type boring classical junk just designed to break the background silence.

Oh My God I love Insane Clown Posse! My fave song by them has to be Nothing's Left, so depressing and crazy but damn funny too. They can do so much with their music: emotional, crazy, funny. I gotta remind myself to pick up a few of their CDs. Yup, they're my fave kind of music too. I like Limp Bizkit and Korn as well.

If you love that, you have to check out Ganksta Nips album ‘South Park Psycho’. Ganksta nip doesn’t try to be funny, but he is so dam mixed up in the head and he don’t try to make his words into stories or anything it just mixed up sick statements.

“Like dead cats heads swinging from a crucifix” or “I was born in a dead pigs head in my brother chest”

You should check out Gravediggz track ‘diary of a mad man’

All the old stuff has to be good because these days everyone is sampling it - which just annoys me. I'm listening to American Top 40 at the moment and I think it's Beyonce, I may be wrong, whose latest hit is knocked off Tainted Love. It's just getting so tired and predictable, surely the 60's to 80's is a finite resource. Yes I'm 35, yes I'm a retro DJ, yes I'm only listening to commercial radio to keep up with current tastes...I don't hate all current Top 40 though, Bob Sinclar's "Love Generation" has hooked me, as has Roger Sanchez' new stuff.

So what do I like...? Most classic stuff from the late 60's onwards, I find most stuff before the Who, Sgt. Pepper era Beatles, Bob Dylan and Zappa pretty inane. 70's progressive rock like King Crimson, Mike Oldfield, Pink Floyd and particularly Peter Gabriel-era Genesis. I also love the 70's disco stuff, when dance records actually had instruments on them...some the cheesy 80's stuff that I get paid to play...post punk stuff like the Clash, The Cure, REM, Elvis Costello, Devo, The Cult...Got into local and international indie during the 90's.

I think my ears then got taken out by the Y2K bug because I've really only been turned on to Queens Of The Stone Age and Mclusky since the turn of the millenium...oh yes, and retrospectively Girls Against Boys, a criminally underrated 90's band who've been kind of MIA since 2002. And in my steady onward march to middle age I've taken to be-bop era jazz. Stuff like Thelonius Monk, Sun Ra, Charles Mingus, Oliver Nelson is very cool, sexy stuff and a fairly natural progression from being a fan of Zappa.

And lastly, my former housemate, who previously lived in Glasgow, brought back an Average White Band compilation which totally hooked me. They're totally unknown here and I could only find a best-of CD in an import shop. However I've single-handedly managed to turn "Pick Up The Pieces" into a retro dancefloor banger and I'm quite proud of the fact. :D

Most varieties of Rock and Electronic music, and any combination of the two. Right now my two most listened to bands are The Faint and Mindless Self Indulgence, although Depeche Mode, Nightwish, CAKE, and Ozzy Osbourne well probably always be my favorite bands. Also like Classical, Folk, Hip Hop / Rap, and a whole bunch of other stuff. http://www.last.fm/user/Sarcastic_Name/ I should also mention that I'm addicted to music, and I really "addicted".

I like a lot of the post-punk and shoegaze bands out there including the Smiths, Cocteau Twins, Pixies, Elliott Smith, My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive. I've recently got into metal bands like Tool and Opeth. On another note, does it bother anyone when people say, "oh, I like everything", when they they list their favorite bands?

Anyone who thinks they've even heard everything is a tosser.
