What role does the imagination play in life? In autism - Asperger and so on?

Do most with autism - Asperger find it easy to role-play? Other?

Experiences?

As a couple of therapists have pointed out, I've used my imagination as an effective defense mechanism throughout my life. My imagination protects me from the more tragic aspects of life, and the more boring aspects as well. I can keep myself entertained for hours using only my mind.

We use our imaginations a lot more than NTs generally speaking. Ignore any so-called "professionals" (NTs who have no understanding of what it's actually like to have Asperger's) who say anything else.

Don't know what the research shows, but I would guess we are far more imaginative than the average NT. Just glance at all the writers who have been named in the "Historical People With AS" threads. It's a fact our brains are wired differently, which probably leads to imaginative thoughts. The loneliness we suffer probably is a big factor also. We read a lot, and project ourselves into those stories.

People noticed that I had a good imagination, but that was before I decided no to care anymore.
