Hi,

Right now I am in a strange position of not having much of a foucs in life. I am engaged to be married and very happy with my soon to be husband. But is seems like I have not found a "calling" or a "niche" or what have you. I have things I enjoy doing but just feel kind of empty as I don't have a focus in my life and am trying to figure out what to do that is meaningful and not just something for entertainment. I miss being a student because being a student gives one a sense of focus in life. But I can't just wish I was a college student again.

How did your find your "focus" or something that made your life meaningful even if it is not either having children or having a career? Life is actually good; I am just feeling kind of restless right now.

I did the things I thought I would never do like work at a food bank. I worked at a small town food bank for a year and I got so many friends from there, they are even going to come visit me when I move in May. Just seeing how bad some people have it makes you feel like all your problems are nothing compared to theirs. I would type all day about volunteering but some people would get mad over it.

Don't think too much about it, find something worthwhile to do to keep your mind busy. Quite frankly I think you're just bored and you need to just immerse yourself in activities. A lot of problems come from the idea you are supposed to get everlasting good or positive feelings from something, this is not how life works. Your biology is constantly changing and effecting how you feel causing you to over think your life, many people make stupid decisions because they can't recognize they are just having a "down period" in their life.

Hi AS,
I am looking into some new volunteer opportunities and one place that I thought that I would try and once place that I sent information to about volunteering was 'The Georgia Meth Project.' I was planning on trying to see if I could work as an advocate for people who are taking the drugs.

You might also went to see about going to back to school to get a master's in general studies and enjoy learning because you are very smart.

Writing (stories, poetry), painting, playing music and other artistic activities are very good ways to relax and to open the mind to other possibilities. It is a bit like dreaming, that answers to unrelated questions might just pop into your head because you created that space.
