Just today, in the waiting room while my wife was at her appointment, I idly picked up a magazine and found this:

http://www.scientificamerican.com/artic ... women-bond

Obviously, the authors see it from a different vantage point - but I am VERY aware of the stressors this culture loads on people even on the edges of the spectrum, and of the differences in men and women who seem to be at about the same position in the spectrum as I sit. And those diffferences tend to fit nicely into the findings from this experiment.

My wife and I are fairly similar when under reduced stress. Up the stress, and we differentiate, exactly as predicted.

I tend to withdraw when I'm under stress. I had to spend three days at home, after work this week.

I do too...I've been very stressed in the past six months or so, and if I could just take off somewhere by myself i would...

I withdraw when under stress, too. I just need to lock myself in my room and turn off all the lights.

Under stress I pull into my shell, my wife has to go hide. This is a given.

But what I am thinking - without wanting to talk about the spectrum as a whole, my basic background stress level is a whole lot higher than certain other people's. My wife - well, we figure she is under constant excess levels of adrenalin.

So - my baseline is not so hot on interpreting facial and ther emotional cues. And her baseline is unusually high awareness of other's emotional states. And I ask myself, is my NORM what the card carrying NT male gets under exceptional stress, is her norm where the NT female goes exceptionally?

i was stressed out yesterday when i had to get a second shot and someone at the free clinic wrote my previous shot date down wrong so they didnt want to give it to me. and on top of it they were late with my appointment, wich compiled the problem greatly, i sufferd silently until i got home and then had a behavior  :(
