This is something I've wondered about, since most people tell me that caffiene makes them hyper, energetic, and possibly irrational whereas I find that under the influence of caffienated beverages I'm a lot more calm, thoughtful and laid-back.
Does anyone else here believe that caffiene has a different effect on them than on most people?

Well it makes me pretty hyper & alert. But I also have ADHD; personally I think it's THAT that makes me hyper with caffiene.

If I don't drink if often, which I don't, then it makes me have more energy. If I consistently consume it then nothing happens

When I have caffeine, i'm still pretty mellow. My random bouts of silliness are due to issues with medication.

Caffiene doesn't make ME hyper either. Maybe it IS an aspie thing. Milk doesn't put me to sleep! I can, and HAVE, overdose on aspirin till I get tinnitus and STILL hurt! A LOT of drugs don't work on me! Some "sedatives" don't put me to sleep either.

Has the same effect on me as not going to sleep... none of the other stuff...

By the way you will need to take a hell of alot of tablets

I took 24 ibrofaine tablets if thats spelt right stronger than the aspirin, about 17 aspirins, and about 30 anti depressent drugs that I was on 225mgs, and while the ambulance was here they said it's not considered as a lethal amount.... And I can agree with them... Don't mean do it by the way I did have to drink charcoal and it's yuck to drink to stop the drug's soaking into my body.... puked up too when a big part came lose fromt he bottom of the bottle lol and went all over the wall and me...

I use the ib to the aspirin they don't work on me...

Coffee is not meant to make you hyper it's only if you have a problem you will go to the hyper stage, need to drink alot for a normal person to start the sugur caf hyper your talking about... think it's past 8 cups or so.... Same with sugur drinks only if you have a problem you will go hyper... You should notice your hand shaking unless you do shake then you will not notice...

Caffein has no effect on me, I can drink two cups of coffee just before going to bed, and still sleep. And it dosen't make me feel awake in the morning. Anyway, I don't drink it often.

Aspirin dosen't work on me either, but when I take pills with codein it works nice.

If you drink it just before you go to bed it won't have had enough time to take effect & with coffee if you do lay down you will go to sleep...

Caffeine is rapidly absorbed through the stomach and small intestine into the bloodstream, where it takes about 15-45 minutes to reach peak levels. The level of caffeine in the blood reaching the brain determines the potency of its effects on the body. Usually the central nervous system is maximally stimulated within 30-60 minutes. Caffeine is metabolized by the liver and eventually its metabolites are excreted in urine, although caffeine can also be secreted in saliva, semen, and breast milk.

Caffeine will continue to have an effect on the body as long as it remains in the blood. The time required for the body to eliminate one-half of the total amount of caffeine consumed (or caffeine's half-life) varies from several hours to several days, but for the average non-smoking adult it is about 3-4 hours.1, 2 Several factors can lengthen caffeine's half-life, such as some medications, liver diseases, pregnancy, and the level of enzymes in the liver needed for caffeine metabolism. The half-life of caffeine in a pregnant women is 18-20 hours; the half-life in women taking oral contraceptives is up to 13 hours. Other factors, such as smoking can shorten caffeine's half-life. Half-life in a newborn baby may be as long as 30 hours.2

I find that the amount of caffine in a tall cup of coffee gives me the poops. Other than that, I don't notice a difference.

Caffeine does weird things to me. Sometimes it only seems to make me more sluggish and tired than before, and makes me want to go to sleep. I also get this nasty itchy feeling in the eyes, a bit like the one when one has been sleepy for a long time, and a general feeling of being unwell and not thinking straight. For some reason this comes especially with strong black tea and most strong energy drinks like Red Bull. If I have too much caffeine and it's stretched over a longer period, the sleepiness doesn't go, but I can't sleep when I try. The itchiness gets worse, and I have this tension inside that makes me restless without being alert. Nothing nice really.

On the other hand, some drinks like Pepsi-Max or one drink we have that has lots of guarana as well as taurine and caffeine, do make me more hyper and alert. Maybe it's due to their other ingredients more than the caffeine itself.

Other foods do make me very cheerful and energetic, almost manic - black chocolate with mint filling that has real mint oil, and crystallized ginger sweets. It could be a very bipolar thing, though. Now I'm thankful to one friend of mine with bipolar who suggested the mint chocolate thing (her husband is a food chemist and knows what foods can balance out or affect one's mood); it's been a great help when I'm feeling down.

Stimulants often have an idiosyncratic reaction in person with ADHD. Instead of
casuing stimulation they have a calming effect.

For me the effects depend on how much coffee I drink. Generally speaking though, I can have a triple shot latte and not be hyper...it makes me feel more in control, more mentally alert. But if I overdo it, it can actually make me feel drugged and sleepy as heck.

I'm very oversensitive to caffeine, as I am to basically all medications. Even a little caffeine is enough to make me sweaty, red in the face, shaky, jittery, makes my heart pound and race, and will keep me up for a long time. I've been caffeine-free for years now.

Last time I had caffeine, it was a half a cup of Pepsi, and I was up with a pounding heart until 7am.

Caffeine has no effect on me one way or the other; I've tried those caffeine tablets they have that are supposed to boost alertness, but they never did anything for me.
