I first heard of this website when I was doing a graduation project about my Aspergers. My speech teacher wanted me to go online and research some information on Aspergers and she showed me this site as a good example. I didn't use it as one of my sources but I started to visit this site once in a while. Over time I started to become addicted to this site when I found out that they have threads and forums for people effected by Autism. Each thread I've read had interesting questions and answers on issues that people with Autism face such as living independent, work, dating, etc. I decided that I want to join in and that's where it began.

I like to hear your stories too. :)

I was googling 'David Byrne+Asperger's'. I guess that conversation impressed me.

I had been spending most of my online time on some 12-Step sites, and one day I did a search for "asperger" on one of them. Much to my surprise and delight, that search ended up leading to a few phone conversations with a father (on that site) of a young man who is autistic, and that man also put me in touch with someone else on that site who showed me the orbit I needed to get here.

I tried to find a decent forum for Aspergers in a search engine.

Same. At the time I wasn't sure if I might be on the spectrum and wanted more information. I find that forums where people write of their first hand experiences are the best sources of information and insights.

Now I just like to read what people here have to say, which is often interesting and thought-provoking. This a refreshingly civil and intelligent forum much of the time.

I found this through Asperger Teens (yahoo group) in June 2004 when it first opened. I lurked here and read a few posts but didn't come here much. I had no desire to join because I went to enough sites then. Then I forgot about this place and never came back to it again.

Then in Spring 2005 my old stalker IM me and tried to get me to come here and I still said no.

Then in August 2006 I decided to come back to the autism community and I decided to do forums than groups. I did a search on AS and found this place and AFF. I joined AFF and then here two days later.

Link surfing the net, somehow. I signed up right away, posted a few times, then quit for a while. Then I was talking with the BF at the time, who is now hubby, and showed it to him. I started posting again after that.

I have no idea. I've been around here forever; I can't remember when I first found it.

I've found this site through a link in a news article, in the Summer of 2004. I've gone from Mod to fake punk, back to Mod again and I've seen many changes to this site, over the 6 years that I've been here.

I used Google to search for Asperger's syndrome, but I remember ploughing through a lot of sites that were pushing something, or full of whacky views, or just plain wrong. There is some really unhelpful stuff out there, and some really scary sites run mostly (it seems) either by mixed-up parents of children with autism, or to exploit them. (I eliminated any site that wanted money for access and any that already knew the answer).

I heard someone mention this place years ago on another site but I didn't bother to check it out then. I ran across this site occasionally while researching stuff & a couple people mentioned this place on asexual sites. I decided to join cuz I was having some issues on a site related to my AS & I remembered this place.
