I get bothered by noises at night. I can hear noises that are inaudible to anyone else in the house. It makes it very difficult for me to sleep. My sister said it is because I am ‘a complete psycho’. I don’t know if she was still mad at me or if it was the truth.

I always thought it had something to do with aspergers, but after she said that I began to question it. She says doesn’t remember saying it but it still bugs me.

Does this make me crazy?

That doesn't make you crazy. That just makes you sensitive.

OK, the real question is: are the noises you hear actual noises (such as the water softener running at 4am or a train going through a distant town) or are they noises that do not exist.

If the noises are real, then you are just sensitive to noise. If they are not real, they you are a psycho.

Real simple if you ask me

I don't think it makes you a psychopath, though...

Actually, it does mean such.

Psycho is a derogatory term used by people to describe Schizophrenia. Since one of the basic symptoms is hearing and following imaginary voices, That would mean that one of the possible reasons to be labled a psycho is to hear imaginary voices.

actually psycho is often used to insult someone who is acting, dressing, or otherwise saying or doing things that are abnormal. It's also used when someone flips out alot.

'Psycho' is a very ambigious term it can be used to describe a guy who is stalking his ex girlfriend to someone who dresses goth and has uneven tempermement. And like bouchard said it can also be a derogrative term to describe someone diagnosed with a mental disorder such as Schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or even aspergers.

Don't worry, this in no way makes you a psycho. I have the very same problem. I become agitated by certain sounds as well. Especially at night. Nothing worse than a brother who sings while he attempts to sleep, badly at that.

Being sensitive does not make you a psycho. Don't be so hard on yourself.

Its not about imaginary voices. It is about my sister talking on the phone and listening to the radio at night. Nobody but me seems to notice how loud she is.

OK, that is sensitivity. That does not make you a psycho, just simply sensitive to your sister talking.

When I lived on 41st Street, I could hear the trains going through Rochester at 3am even though I lived about 4 miles from the nearest point of the RR track.

No, being hypersensitive to real noise has nothing to do with either psychopathy or psychosis. It's just a part of having Asperger's syndrome.

Now, on the other hand, if you declared your intent to "make those f***in' sick, depraved pigs rot and feed on their own putrid juices" while claiming to be the "most wicked demon ever to have scorched the face of the earth," yeah, your sister might have a point.

I have the same problem but in the morning.

I find noises VERY irritating when I get up in the moring, often I end up sticking my finger in my left ear.
