I would greatly appreciate your help with this. :D I would like to determine (by a quick survey, which doesn't tell me anything for certain)... um. I'm not sure how to communicate what I want to determine, but when I ask the question it should be trivial for you to reverse-engineer the purpose.

I would like you to tell me whether you like yin or yang better. Not in terms of the sound of the words, or the characters. Do not answer whether you consider yourself more yin or yang (on the poll, at least; commenting on the thread couldn't hurt, and might help). I do want to know which sort of environment you prefer, whcih sort of objects you like to be surrounded by, which sort of emotions you prefer to feel. Information on yin and yang is easily googleable. I would also like to know whether you are autistic or NT.

I would especially love to know if you disagree in any way with what's "officially" yin or yang. (If, to pick an example I doubt is possible, you thought the sun and darkness should go on the same list, I'd especially love to hear that.)

http://www.sacredlotus.com/theory/yinyang.cfm for those who aren't already familiar with the concept.

I refrained from mentioning Yin and Yang in the title to avoid whatever selection bias it might have caused, just as I refrain from mentioning my hypothesis to avoid skewing the results.

I answered "both/neither", but I actually wanted to answer "In balance".

I follow garam / thanda guides with my food and take care to balance my food essence, and to use food to balance my own garam / thanda essence. Garam (hot) broadly equates to yang and thanda (cold) to yin. Chinese and Indian food classifications have similarities (see e.g. http://www.feng-shui-institute.org/yinyang.htm).

Here is one explanation: http://books.google.ie/books?id=tMdUXyS ... ds&f=false

There is a lot of rubbish in folk medicine, especially in Western commercial spin-offs, but most traditional folk food practices will do more good than harm.

You are missing an option: "Other Neurodiverse or uncertain, prefer neither/both."

That will skew the results.

Although there is a certain comfort and attraction in Yin, the most energy is found in the transition and to be stuck in either is too static and ultimately death. I voted both - for the dynamic interchange between the two - life. I would not want to be forced to remain in either of the two but if I had to choose I would prefer to be caught in yin more than yang.

I might have voted "Other Neurodiverse or uncertain, prefer neither/both", but that option wasn't there. (You may have forgot to hit "add option" after typing it.) So, since I feel like I'm more autistic than NT if I have to choose, I voted "Autistic, prefer neither/both".

I voted "NT; prefer neither/both"

I prefer both (either), depending on the mood I'm in on a particular day. Sometimes I want to hunker down and curl up, Yin-style. Those are good days for making soup in large batches and freezing it for later use. Sometimes I want to go out and "seize the day" Yang-style. Those are good days for being at work or accomplishing a home renovation project.

You can't really prefer one or the other because they aren't actually anything. Separately, they're completely meaningless. They can be used to REPRESENT two opposing, but equal, forces, and there are occasionally traditional representations that go along with them, but Yin and Yang do not actually mean anything themselves. Female can be represented by Yang just as easily as it can be for Yin.

What a weirdly lopsided poll result.

I wanted a 'balance' option too.

I'm so sorry, and it won't let me edit! *facepalm* Sorry. :? Well... I guess I'll try to take into account if you answer that, and do the math myself.

Thanks for answering, everyone!

Hello, I found the concept interesting. I prefer Yang.

I didn't answer because my response is not an option on the poll.

Am I the only one that read the page and came away thinking absolutely nothing about the two? It seems very vague.

I voted for that option.
