I had meltdown, a bad panic attack, I was crying, feeling like no one cares & wanting to die, I got this this morning before 11 AM, I calmed myself down by breathing. I got soooooo scared by my future, I’m going be all alone when I’m in my 60s & 70s if I make it.

How do you people here calm down from a meltdown?

I would suggest taking a break and doing something that makes you happy, like looking at something funny or cute online. I'm sorry to hear that happened, and I hope things get better for you. *hugs*

Some things that help me overcome a meltdown are:

• Getting away from the cause (if possible)

• Playing video games

• Having someone I love pamper me, hold me close, sing to me etc.

• Have a hot shower

• Clean (yes, even cleaning can help)

I am sorry :( that sounds really stressful!

I find calming down hard, who doesn't, but normally for me it's a hot drink I can hold, which I find really comforting. I love the feeling of warmth, so maybe find a sense you really like and go indulge :).

Also silly mindless things, for example I have a particular film I watch (frozen lol) whenever I am overwhelmed, sometimes I get into bed, with a teddy and a drink and watch it and it helps me get some sleep, meltdowns are exhausting.

Write out all your worries and either destroy them, or if you are a horder like me keep them somewhere. Sometimes they are nice to have for the next time when you feel really stressed to read though.

Do everything you can to remove all stimuli that annoy you, even subtle ones. So I turn off all the lights - maybe leave a dim one on, find comfy clothes, and make sure it is silent, wearing headphones if I can't control the external noise.

When you start feeling a little less stressed I would go find a special interest and distract yourself for the rest of the day/as much time as you have :). I find this normally balances me out again :)

Oh! And remember to eat something ahahha. When I am stressed I am terrible at remembering food lol.

As for my last meltdown, I just had to get through it and get all of it out, and after it ended I felt so peaceful and relaxed.

Stimming helps.

However when I'm having a meltdown I tend to bang my head against walls so don't do as I do.

Do not do what I do, remember that being neuro-divergent means we are all different.

I have to go through my meltdowns. If I am in a social setting I have to leave for a short time. Once I have some level of control back I will have a cold still drink.

I drink a lot. I find that being well hydrated not only means I pee more, but am less likely to melt down.

I'm already guilty of that... Though it tends to be more of myself hitting my head instead of a wall.

Although I don't tend to have meltdowns, I'm definitely guilty of both of these. If I happen to be standing next to a wall, a bar, whatever, I stim by tapping my head against the wall, bar, or whatever (not hard enough to hurt myself). Especially on planes.

If I'm not standing next to a wall, I hit my head with my hard, generally slapping my forehead or the top of my head with my fingers.

I generally start by hitting myself with my hands and pulling my hair, that's how I know when I'm having one. If it progresses then I start punching and kicking things. When I'm at my worst I will hit my head on the walls or floor.
