Some time ago I heard a radio talk show host joke that he was "born w/out the sports gene", and I just thought it was brilliant.
(And I think this refers primarily to team sports, rather than all forms of exercise.)
Before hearing that, I never really knew how to explain to people that I really don't get sports, I don't care about sports, and have no interest in watching sports, and no idea why most people are so into playing and/or watching sports. Now, all I have to do, if it comes up, is joke "Sorry, I was born w/out the sports gene - so I don't exactly follow sports".
I mean really - if you've seen one football game (baseball game, basketball game, etc.) you've seen them all, right? How can people sit there all that time and find it so interesting? And who cares who wins, you know? It's of absolutely no consequence whatsoever.
I'm guessing this has to be a common thing among people on the spectrum.
But then again, maybe sports can be a "special interest" for some of us?
What do you think?
