hey, i have a question. I am diganosed with atypical autism.

when there's changes or other stuff i don't like or can't handle i can get ocd symptoms, moodswings or get depressed ect cause i dont feel safe. They suspected i was manicdepressive or had ocd among other things and tried different medications on me for years without helping me .
Is there anyone else here who get symptoms like that? is it common? are most aspies (and others within the spectrum) more likely to be depressed instead..or something like that??

Depression is a comorbid of Asperger's Syndrome.

Everyone experiences symptoms of a particular disorder. It's only a disorder if it really affects your life. In your case, it's not the depression but the change itself-- hence autism. I wouldn't trust any doctor who keeps trying to medicate you. If someone has great difficulty with change or anything, I don't see how it is abnormal to feel those things.

It's very common for Aspie's and Autists to have symptoms of other disorders, and most actually do have another disorder.

I have self and friend diagnosed Asperger's, but I show a lot of the symtpoms of Nonverbal learning disorder, attention deficit disorder, OCD, dyscalculia and dyspraxia. I'm so confused! I have all of the symptoms of ADD, but it would just be stupid to self-diagnose with TWO conditions.

I wonder if AS is my real "problem" and if I am actualy bi polar. I remember those little kids in the Saint Jude infomercials as a little kid. I was severely autistic as an infant and little kid and didn't learn to speak until I was three or four and had echoliaila until my teens and didn't know how to have a conversation until I was an adult. I probably have some form of lycanthrope. I remember as young as three feeling as if I was born the wrong species.

The light bulb thread reminded me that I identify with the symptoms for seasonal affective disorder. I am really dreading winter.

In addition to A.S., I've also been diagnosed with social anxiety and depression, both of which are known to be co-morbid to A.S. I also seem to have a lot of the symptoms of A.D.D., but I don't have the time or energy to go through a psych evaluation to see if I actually do have that condition.
