Neurotypical syndrome is a very common mistake in brain-wiring. This mix-up can be easily spotted in the NT (person with NT syndrome) by watching out for these signs: .preoccupation with social concerns. .Delusions of superiority .Assumption that their experience of the world is the only correct one .Difficulty with solitude .Intolerance of seemingly minor differences in others .In groups, Inisistence on destructive/dysfunctional and even impossible rituals as a way of maintaing indenty of said group. .Difficulty communicating directly .Much higher incidence of lying than certain other groups .Difficulty decing on whether to use eye-contact in the ALL form or in the NOTHING form. .Over-exageration of emotions , body language, gestures, miming or spoken language .Limited senses. Tragicially, this could affect as many as 9265 out of every 10,000 indiviuals. NT syndrome is believed to be genetic in origin. However, there are many other theories, perhaps the most well-known being 'oven mothers'. There is no time to prevent NT syndrome as the signs are present either in infancy or in very early childhood. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for NT syndrome. However, many NTs have learned to compensate for their disabilites and are able to communicate with those on the Autistic Spectrum succesfully. The discovery of NT syndrome, first in the U.K. and later on in the U.S has led to the start of numerous organisations dedicated to fighting NT syndrome, CANT is perhaps the best-k...

If I had it, I'd like to be cured. Why would I want to be like the people, that I despise, the most - NT females?

* Fact: approximately 50% of people with NT children will divorce.

* Fact: NT children are a drain on the rest of society -- they require funds for schooling which is a weight on the backs of good tax-paying citizens.

* Fact: NT's are out-breeding AC's. They are the most responsible for the depletion of resources and pollution of the Earth.

* Fact: NT children are like overly-full husks. They 'leak' NT verbal & non-verbal signals wherever they go. This is confusing and upsetting to many AC's, who should not have to put up with such behavior.

(note: the above is satire)

I asbolutely would want a cure. At 57 I have spent most of my life in a world that had no understanding of Asperger's and I believe it has been the greatest stressor leading to the depression I have had since a teen. I have never felt unloved, but never understood why I felt unliked. This is especially true since the Aspergers I have is the kind where I have difficulty not talking and talk too loud. I feel like I am always needing to monitor myself and when I don't I get into trouble and often don't know it. I think it would be different if I were the kind of Aspie who was shy and didn't like to talk. To add to my stress, I have worked as a mental health professional most of my adult life and find that my co-workers are generally quite judgemental.

If I had "NT syndrome", I wouldn't want to be "cured", because I want to be myself, and I'm pretty sure that would stay the same if I had a different neurology. Similarly, I don't want to switch from autistic to NT either. I just want to be me, rather than somebody else, and disability is hardly even on the list of considerations compared to that.

I wish my friend could be cured. She probably has a PDD but she is also HYPER social and she is terrified of being alone and alone she feels life is useless, she needs company all the time.

I wish she could be cured from that. She suffers from not having enough company. She doesn't know what to do on her own.

Unlucky for her she has a non social AS for bestest human buddy... LOL.

No matter if they say I have aspergers or not, I fall on the non-neurotypical scale really hardcore, and have already been diagnosed with a horde of disorders to say so. When I think of how little NT people think of the world and how little they try to invest themselves into knowledge, I feel sorry for them, and always have before I even knew a lot about ASD!

Nice point to make! Switch the tables around and consider this all a disorder, a dysfunction, like they say WE are!

NTs often center around people; their lives are defined by who they know instead of what they know or what they do. So you could have an NT who knows very little and hasn't achieved very much, but who is very happy with his life because he has good friends and a stable family. Maybe an Aspie in that situation would be bored and go seek out the nearest library post-haste, but NTs often have different priorities, especially if they aren't nerdy NTs. They're just wired to connect with other people.

I've met some people with borderline personality disorder who had that problem--who felt empty and useless when they weren't with someone, either in a relationship or physically with another person. It didn't sound very nice to me at all. I like solitude, and not being able to take advantage of it sounds horrible.

Yeah, most of those people I've met are really nice too. I'm not here to knock NTs, I'm here to say hey yeah... what about that? Calling us disordered when these people are just as disordered? I've had an interest in Psychology for quite some time before it changed, but now I'm kind of sick of it, because it's very accusational and puts people down. I remember a few times chatting with old NTs. They've got great stories to tell as much as any non-NT would. It is an amazing world, but I agree that a lot of people get out of hand with considering this such a dysfunction and disease, when people with or without contribute to the world in some way, like I said in the other post!

heheheh, plus I got a little excited over this post when I saw it first. So it does appear to be biased, but it's not my intention. ;D

Probably because people have this idea that if you're disabled (or disordered or whatever), that means your life isn't as good and you yourself are somehow not as good as people who aren't. But that's not true. All it means to have a disorder is that... you've got a disorder. That's it. Having autism doesn't imply anything about how good you are at other stuff, how happy your life is, how much you contribute to the world...

There's this idea that disability means that we're this group that's below everybody else. Problem being, disabled people are just people, and there's so much more different from person to person than just having or not having a disability.

The real funny thing is, the "NT syndrome" satire sounds just as sensible as the crap Autism Speaks says about us
