This is merely my hypothesis. If you disagree, kindly abstain writing an absurdly aggressive post which will cause intimidated feelings. Also, abstain posting patronising posts.

My thoughts on AS are rather simple. A disorder which varies between mild and severe, effects sociability and gives the person many idiosyncrasies. Well, another trait of AS that is seldom mentioned in information books is that many people suffering from AS tend to have an old-fashioned manner about them. Myself, I would be able to conform in the Edwardian Era, where in my opinion, AS was quite common. Formality was common, stereotypical views were accepted and conversations were usually dominated by ones special interest. I would be able to conform in this era, with little difficulty. I imagine I would have difficulty socialising with the poorer in society, but if I was to reside in this era, I would be in the Upper-Middle class, I expect, which I should have been capable socialising with.

Whether the person effected with AS would conform in the 1850s, or the 1970s, I have noticed that those with AS do have a tendency to be old-fashioned.

In some ways. I sometimes use language that people think is out of date but I think that is more of an artifact of reading a lot of books from different time periods. I like old and antique things, as well, but it's more because I really like objects and want to care for them because if they are old and sitting around in some old shop it means they are neglected and sad.

But what do you mean by having stereotypical views?

Buryuntime.

By stating that sufferers of AS have stereotypical views, I was referring to the fact that many sufferers are quite stereotypical and so were the people (Upper class, usually) of the Edwardian Era.

Yes I am old fashioned, but I don't suffer from AS. I suffer from the ignorant attitudes that many people around me have about autism.

I am too focused on the next new thing to worry constantly about the past.

I do retreat to comfortable things of the past on occasion, however. Nostalgia is good.

I am old fashioned about some things, very progressive and modern in other ways.

I was thinking just today that the whole texting, cellphone, earphone wearing, crowd has made my Aspie weirdness seem much more normal to many people. It's like everyone under 40 is drifting off into their own little world staring at a little screen.

The problem is most of this is very socially focused still. Someone staring at their cellphone can be assumed to be socially connecting with someone. I'd probably just be playing Tetris.

No - I'm very, very modern. If I expressed my views in any other time period I would be confined to an asylum (a common practice with 'uppity' women).

True true... but still they really are not really ALL there, and busy in some separate interior world.

The fashion of time is something that I do not follow.
I do learn things from different times which make sense. Of these things I tend to adopt. Computers are great new fashioned stuff. Standard vehicles are great. Some of the older classical music has wonderful stuff in it.
some of the times that I did wish I was back in time... I didn't know a lot of the stuff that was happening. I would think it is really easy and good humored. but it really isn't.

I wouldn't say "old-fashioned", but I might say "not in fashion" I don't wear clothes from any time period really, just t-shirts and jeans/yoga pants. I listen to music from the 90's or 2000's mostly, but its not popular music. I'm into more modern movies, however, they are G or PG rated. (Which doesn't seem popular with most people in their mid-teens). So, I would say "not in fashion" rather than "old fashioned" in my case.

My views and opinions are probably mostly modern though and I have a cell phone, iPod and laptop, so in some ways I am modern.

Ditto. I've been told I don't have a "style" of dress. That's probably true--I just wear what's comfortable.

Music: 1940's up to the present...if I happen to like it.

I am not old fashioned at all. AS is weird in being a spectrum disorder in the fact that our AS symptoms can have very opposite effects on us. My dad is old fashion however and hes AS. Me and my dad have lots of similarities in our aspieness but we take those traits to practically different ends. Like someone said earlier, I am too weird to be old fashioned. I am too different. One of the things I am glad about is living in the 21st century.
