The Vest system! They did a demo with me on tuesday and I absolutely loved it. The best thing is, i was able to breathe a lot more clearer and even speak clearer after my first 10 minute session. The other beautiful thing is that it is so comforting how it is. You put this vest on that is made exactly like a giant blood pressure cuff that inflates around you and then deflates a little bit and inflates again 25 times a second or so, and It felt like I was getting 25 very tight hugs per second or so, It was also nice and warm feeling. The minute she put it on me, I went dead silent and got very sleepy and relaxed. Usually I don't shut up during medical procedures. This one, I was dead quiet. Sadly that clear breathing is now slowly subsiding as it's a therapy that users must do twice a day for 20 minutes. So I only got a sample of what clear breathing and speaking is like.

I find it sad that they only make these available to people with respiratory disorders, Thankfully I have as respiratory disorder and will be getting my own unit soon. But what I wish they would do is add it to criteria for sensory processing disorder equipment. I think something like this would be very helpful to a good deal of autistics. I might one night just sleep with it on but not in the oscillation mode (25 cycles per seond) I would turn it all off and then hit the power once, and then one more time to inflate the vest. Since if you hit it the third time it goes into the high frequency chest wall compressive oscillation.

Here is a video

This video shows a smaller child using the system though the system operates the same across all sizes, just use a different size vest. This video shows the oscillation being run. Which In my opinion felt awesome!

Do you think they should cover it for sensory therapy too on health insurance? And would you like how it feels or probably not?

good, enjoy your vest strapples.

It will support your ribs and maintain upper body body systems making breathing easier. Wonderful.

Hehe, Thanks.

Question for you marie, do you have any interest if they did do this therapy for people OUTSIDE of respiratory disorders. Would you want to get it?

Well? do you enjoy deep pressure? and does deep pressure help relax you?

if yes then more than likely on the sensory end you would benefit.

I would love to have one of those as well. I've always heard about weighted vest, but I think inflatable vests would be better. Seems more comforting.

Bah! I have heard the crap about weighted vests forever! they apply pressure at the shoulders not across the entire body! an inflated vest causes deep pressure across the entire body including the shoulders!

i got it again. they withdrew my order in aug 2008 due to the baclofen pump, respiratory wise I WAS OK BACK THEN. Then they had me back on it. THEN THEY WITHDREW IT AGAIN IN FEBRUARY 2010 and now i got it back and I am keeping it.. someone somehow said it caused my baclofen pump to fail when it didnt!! !

I am now on a schedule where i need to accumulate 1 hour or more on the machine per day, the machine has an internal usage meter that i check daily to make sure i am meeting my usage goals which is quite easy. I got the machine today and as always will love itt! I will especially use it shortly before I am going to sleep unless i have an excessive amount of work that i need to do, at that point no matter what sensory things i do my work comes first. its similar to a computer system my brain.

it does many things.

1. Checks all running processes to see if all of their work is done
2. Shuts down all completed processes
3. Queues processes that are non urgent
4. Triages urgent processes
5. Attempts to complete all urgent processes in order of their triage code (Red Yellow Green) <sometimes I pass out and fall asleep in whatever position i am in due to neural crash out>

An example of when sensory therapies would help is

1. Checks all running processes to see if all of their work is done
2. Shuts down all completed processes
3. Queues processes that are non urgent
4. Triages urgent processes. But finds no urgent processes.
5. Initiates sensory therapies to induce a neural crash
