I just read on one of my facebook groups that heart murmurs can be a sign of autism. Has anyone else every heard of this before? I've never heard of the link, but am quite interested since I have a heart murmur that I was born with.

I have one, and no doctor has ever said it has anything to do with Autism.

I was born with a heart murmur. Don't know if there's any connection.

I've never had a heart murmur before. I didn't even know what it was until I saw this thread and quickly looked up it's definition on Google.

I know an NT who was born with a heart murmur but she was born with lots of other things wrong with her heart too.

Heart murmurs can be signs of many different, unrelated things. Anxiety causes transient heart murmurs. People with AS can suffer from anxiety. Some medications can cause heart murmurs too.

Heart murmurs are extremely common--nearly half of all children have them, and most of the time they don't mean a thing. So, really, I'm surprised we don't have half the board on here saying they had heart murmurs as children.

For the record, I don't have a heart murmur.

That's an interesting question. I've never heard of anyone with Autism having a heart murmur, but obviously it does happen. I would love to read any studies done on this.

Interestingly enough, I had a heart murmur as a baby. I was born with a hernia. My appendix also had to be taken out as a baby. Luckily I don't have those problems today. Still, I am not sure if there is a connection with Autism.
