A really important point has been proven in this thread, and I suggest you read all of it.

Depends on your frame of reference.

Adapting to society is generally the most practical one, as it focuses on tangible realities, like whether you can work/study or not. The less you can do, the more severe you are.

Some people need constant care, otherwise they'd constantly hurt themselves; some people need constant care because they can only manage walking from one place to another; some people can work/study and succeed in their field. All the things in-between these are possible in regards to "can" and "can't do".

What you look like is a poor one, even if those who're more severe do constant motor mannerisms on average.

Hi MathGirl

I read your link and found what you say very interesting.

At 1st glance one would think that my ability to achieve superficial social competance alongside good and very affirming eye contact would render be NT and way off the AS radar.

However, scratch the surface (ie intimate relationships and work experiences) and my AS soon is revealed.

However, I accuired these skills out of extreme adversity, being abused and humiliated every day my my parents.

I learned to be un-natural (un-aspie) as my life deppended upon doing so when younger

My relationship with myself and the world is complex and very prone to meltdowns and being overwhelmed.

In my mind being labeled 'lite' or 'mild' is so miss leading
