Does anyone else get self conscious when walking amongs other people?

When I'm walking along and nobody's around I walk comfortably, although maybe a little clumsily, but when people walk towards me from any direction and even across smaller roads I don't know how to walk. I don't want to appear weak with all the idiots in the area, I don't want to seem a perv if I look at someone in the wrong way or gay if I look at a guy in the wrong way. I've also had people make fun of my walk before so I don't want to be comical either. I often try too hard to walk 'normally' and trip at some point. Just wondered if it's just me? :?:

Yup, I do that :)

When people are around and I'm walking, I feel like I'm walking across a stage, and everyone's watching me.

Lol yeah, I start to worry that I've forgotten how to walk. and on occassion I actually do. Plus I walk wonky and im sure sometimes I accidentally veer towards people who're coming towards me and startle them a bit. It's worse when I become conscious of it and i usually end up doing the exact thing im trying to avoid. blimmin' walking.

I used to walk really fast like I had somewhere I needed to be. Now I've slow down a good bit almost to the normal rate. I still need to make an effort to not do the things I probably did as a kid like walking on the edge of a curb or swinging myself around the lamp post.

Most people have something else going on while they are walking these days. It is a good time to people watch and pretend I have my own self important things to keep me busy. That and I notice that so many people are overweight these days. They get flushed in the face if they are required to walk up a little grade. If I shift my shoulders back, I feel like I could pretty much own the place, until an attractive woman catches my glance and I crumble.

lol, I find myself automatically trying not to step on cracks in the pavement or across 2 paving stones at once like I did as a kid. It's another thing I have to stop myself doing sometimes!

Personally I love walking - however I looked extremely dorky doing it (now now - no misinterpretations here. ^^).
I cannot keep a steady pace, at some point I loose the rhythm and I trip. Also my arms move very strangely when I walk. They're all flappy much like a little baby bird trying to fly.
Whenever I go downtown to shop or whatever, I become slightly anxious because a simple laugh of someone else will make me self-concious and makes me walk even more awkwardly.

YES. I become conscious of every step, and how my arms and hands move, and everything. It's an instant embarrassing feeling, and I've always had it. As far as I know, I have good posture, and I have no limp or disability (God willing), but people have told me I "walk funny".

People told me all my life I walked strange. And then after they told me I did I'd proceed to show them what was walking weird for me, like doing some wierd crab walk or walking backwards and swaying a lot. Probably not the best approach but still I was like 8...

It HAS happened. Often, though, I will walk agggressively - at speed without eye contact -
I dare you to get in my way and don't even THINK of critiquing me.

I don't usually bother trying to stop myself doing those things. They amuse me and I don't care if they make me look weird; they're not doing anyone any harm.

Well I've spent most of my life trying to seem normal, from way before I'd even heard of AS so it's almost natural to stop myself when I actually realise what I'm doing!

One time I shifted to one side to avoid someone in a crowded mall and ended up laying out this little guy. I was 6' 2" 260lbs and the guy I walked into was 5' 8" 120lbs and down he went. I kept walking out of embarrassment and did not look back.

I stagger when I walk sometimes and was pulled over by the police who thought I was either drunk or stoned.
