Yesterday, I took the bus downtown as I usually do every weekday to get to the college. When the bus I needed to get on pulled up, the driver got out without letting anybody on.

But, that's not the whole story. When she got back, she let everybody on before me and then proceeded to close the door in my face! From the reflection of the door windows, I saw someone behind me give the driver a dirty look. Ten seconds later, she opens the door back up to let me and everybody else behind me on.

Does she think I'm stupid or creepy merely because of my AS? That doesn't give her an excuse to cop an attitude with me or anybody else. I was just standing there patiently waiting to get on just like everybody else was.

I know. I wasn't doing anything wrong. The next time it happens, I'm sending in a complaint about her attitude. I'm not putting up with it. I have had enough stress this week as it is and I don't need anybody increasing it further.

I had something similar happen with the supermarket check out operator. I laid a complaint, created a fuss, then shopped somewhere else.

That bus driver is a total loser. You should file a complaint against her.

Reminds me of when I was a kid, sitting on a bus the conductor came along collecting fares, when he got to me I said "4 pence" and handed him the 4p. He took the money and slapped the ticket down in my hand and said in a loud voice "PLEASE". I didn't understand what he meant, why should I say "please" when I wasn't pleased to be giving money away. Now I know white lies are okay.

"Please" is short for "if you please", which means, "if you want"; in other words, it turns a command into a request. So, that's not a white lie at all; when you tag "please" onto something, you're saying, "I'm asking you to do this rather than commanding you to do it; I do not wish to assume authority that I do not have the right to claim."

Of course, "Please" has evolved even beyond that, so that now people who do have the authority to issue a command, such as bosses or teachers, also use "Please". In this case, even though they do have this authority, they are making a statement that they are not "pulling rank" on you (i.e., they are making a request rather than using their authority to dominate you.) This has become such a pervasive custom that it has generalized to things that are commands in all but the semantics.

That bus driver is an a***hole

I had a staff member at an underground station yell at me because I couldn't make sense about what ticket I wanted. I have communication difficulties, ok?! When he yelled at me, I went non-verbal and my friend had to speak for me

Posts like this remind me that NTs have rather profound "social issues." 8)

Anyway, it may not have been you. The driver could simply be rude. Or extremely stupid (Slamming the door in someone's face? Really?).

Best of luck in your future public transportation adventures. BTW, I hate public busses.

Twice, I've been on buses where some kids were playing (what passed as) music through their cellphone speakers in the back seat, so loud that it could be heard all through the bus; then I've gone and (waiting until the bus was stationary) spoken to the driver about it, just for the driver to say, "What's yer problem? Just relax!" Plus a few months ago, some moron purposefully coughed on me, as he was leaving the bus via the front door, and the driver did nothing.

Sounds like the bus driver who crossed the OP has an attitude problem
