Here in the UK we have been having quite a hard winter. Well we say hard but its just a bit of snow and ice, nothing major but enough to make everyone go off there heads panicking about how they are going to get to there social engagement.

I have to drive full time for my job and I have struggled at times but mostly I have managed fine driving on very hard compacted snow that has turned to ice. I put that down to my driving skills yet the people I pick up are the ones getting stressed and worried about it, not me.

Why? Because when its like this it stops people from moving about. It slows people down, it causes parties to be cancelled, it causes people to cancel travel plans, it makes people stay at home.

They don’t like it, they hate it, and many don’t give a damn and expect everything to carry on as normal, even though many roads I have driven on are like polished glass, about two or three inches of rock hard ice. Something our society just isn’t used to living with.

So many towns and villages are deserted and quiet, perfect. People stay at home and live their own lives, perfect. People don’t venture out to socialise, perfect. And everyone around me can’t understand why I want more snow all the time!

Whether there is snow or not in the mythical world of Aspergia I have no way of knowing but if a taste of Aspergia life is sampled after two nights of snow then all I can say is bring on the next ice age!

Many thanks for reading.

You are probably not that used to hard winter driving.

Be very careful of "black ice" this is an ice coating so thing as to be nearly invisible. It is especially deadly at night.

Peel a sharp eye and don't drive too fast.

There's a good chap.

I drive a taxi and have been driving on the ice and in the snow for many hours per several days this winter. I read the road ahead and adjust my speed. If i find i am driving on ice and i am driving too fast i dont use the breaks and slow down by using the clutch and gears.

When driving on ice i go at a crawl as recently the ice has been like glass. Main roads are clear but side roads are still very very thick with ice, so much so that its virtually imposible to walk or even stand on the road.

I know what its like when the car starts to go. Sliding can be disastrous thats why i do everything i possibly can to remain fully in control. I hear many people going on about how ABS, airbags, modern cars or 4X4s are so wonderfull and safer and there isnt anything to worry about. There isnt anything to worry about but i control the car not the other way round!

As regards black ice............all in a days work!

don't use your brakes to slow down. shift to a lower gear and let the transmission slow the car

Irrespect of how you drive, the realisation of seeing a otherwise crowded place deserted is very enjoyable.

Okay so i might have slipped over and hurt my ass and bruised my hand but hey if that stops people from rushing out and doing all thier wierd, pointless, meaningless activities then that makes me quite content.

I utterly despise the summer becuase for some reason it brings poeple out and they drink and socialise a lot more and i hate it so come the winter when it goes quiet and people stay begind thier own closed doors im quite happy to see the snow!

LOL

Black ice will get you every time. I had an 'accident' on black ice going 5 mph in a parking lot. You can slid forever on that stuff.

I'm secretly liking the inclement weather for the same reasons. It just seems cosy. Granted, I walk and therefore have no worries about traffic.

btw: Merry Christmas!

I dont like the potential salt damage that can be done to my motorbike, I cover the thing in WD40, generally washes off in the spring to reveal a shiny undamaged bike underneath though.
I actually otherwise enjoy the hardship, the feeling that you are actually living and experiencing life, rather than having such an easy and comfortable life that you may as well be watching it on thetelly.
The old bike goes better as well, the denser damp air has a higher oxygen content that the bike thrives on.

Well I view driving on ice to be like driving on a dry road at 10 times the speed. So on black ice when you are doing 10 mph it makes the car behave as if you are doing 100 mph on a dry road.

When I was a young man I used to drive my car onto wet mud to simulate ice to allow me to try to improve my ice driving skills in my old car (no ABS and manual transmission).

I've heard that black ice is invisible ~ that it looks like a dry road.

How true this is, I'm not sure. I've known a few people who crashed because of it.

In general, I'm not a fan of winter. Maybe Aspergia is perceived differently by each denizen, according to needs. Or am I thinking of "Heaven"?

I've slipped and fallen on ice before. Ouch! It wasn't fun. I love snow, though. What I do before an ice storm approaches is buy some of that ice melt stuff they sell at home improvement stores although it takes a lot for just a small porch. I also make sure my snow shovel is nearby. Make sure the car has an ice scraper and a snow brush, too. Buy a pair of gloves at the beginning of winter else they might be gone before you can get some once word hits there's going to be a snowstorm. Snow-boots are a must! Be sure to have a warm hat. Put some blankets in the trunk of the car and always carry a cigarette lighter on your person.

I think Aspergia would be just like Narnia.

I may be the only person in the English-speaking world who doesn't get that reference. I've heard the name "Narnia" and I know that it's been "Chronicle"d in print and on film. That's all "Narnia" means to me.

^ Yes, that's what I meant. As in different worlds, like greygoose firstly wrote about being stranded in the snow; otherwordly.....or maybe capsulated or having a dream-like quality. Quote from Wikipedia - Narnia:

"Most of The Chronicles of Narnia take place in Lewis' constructed world of Narnia. The Narnian world itself is posited as one world in a multiverse of countless worlds including our own. Passage between these worlds is possible, though rare, and may be accomplished in various fashions. Narnia itself is described as populated by a wide variety of creatures, most of whom would be recognisable to those familiar with European mythologies and British fairy tales...."
