I read a stat today that 57% of aspies in Sweden are able to find employment, compared to the 90% unemployed in north america I am led to wonder why this is? Does our culture treat employment differently? Do the labour laws in Sweden allow people to better hang on to their jobs?

That's a whole lot of aspies with jobs!

Sweden has a much more comprehensive welfare state than any country in North America; I think you'd find similarly high numbers across the board their as far as normally difficult to employ demographics go. It's kind of misleading though since many of the jobs are "make work" type projects working for the government, I can't remember the numbers off the top of my head but an awful lot of Swedes work directly for the government.

I would be interested to know exactly what the 57% of Aspies in Sweden actually do for work too. Whether they are truly satisfied with their line of work would be an important thing to know.

They may very well be employed, and if they love their jobs, that's wonderful, but if they hate their jobs, I have to wonder whether being "employed" is really a blessing.

We have alot of "make work jobs" here in Canada too except they are mostly making work for NT social workers who systematically refuse services to the disabled/unemployed etc rather than giving these guys a job hahaha

there was actually a program recommended some years ago which was projected to have a 90% success in cleaning up vancouver's east side, the program was called "Treatment on Demand" and though it was expected to have huge impacts and benifits it was turned down because they did not account for retraining all the social workers who would be out of a job without East Van (oi!)
