Anyone else out there with a physical birth [abnormality, defect or handicap] who's either diagnosed as on the spectum, or self diagnosed as being so? I'm just wondering (informal) how many of us there are, and what the most common ones are in the ASD population.

(Mine was digestive - Stomach/Colon/Rectal)

If there's more than one, mark the one most disruptive your your life / comfort.

None, I was actually perfect but I was a very sick baby because I got stressed because I wouldn't come out and my mom kept pushing to get me out. So I ended up pooping in there and if it weren't for the doctor reaching up there and pulling me out, I would have been a stillborn because the BM got in my mouth and into my lunges. So I was in intensive care and nearly died. My mom should have had a c section with me she told me and I should have been flown to another hospital but she had a Keizer doctor so he never gave her a c section or nothing and my mom could have sued him but didn't. she was just happy she had me and she wanted to enjoy being a new parent than dealing with lawsuits.

Hmm. You're missing autoimmune and brain.

Because of my autoimmune disease and cascading organ failures, I've had full body and cranial CT's, MRI's and PET's. Sometimes I'm surprised I don't glow in the dark from how much radiation they've pumped through me. I do have Asperger's, I also have Advanced Sleep Phase Syndrome. Either could be caused by one of my two brain abnormalities, I have a non-symmetrical thalamus and a parietal lobe that is 50% larger than the typical male. Which is probably why I love non-linear math so much. I also have pancreatic divisim and was born with hiatal hernia and I have usually thick myelin sheathes which means Novocaine and opiod's don't work well for me, but I also have better than average reflexes. As frequently as I have surgery and infrequently I play sports, I'm not sure the trade off is fair.

I may be atypical though. My family has several generations of high rates of physical mutation. Three of my siblings died from CHARGE syndrome, two of my father's siblings also had CHARGE. My father's father was one of the three survivors of nine pregnancies. My mother is bipolar, as was her mother - and the Aspie traits come from that side anyway... Mother nature has been trying to kill my gene line off for over 100 years.

I have a rather large dent in my skull, and a massive birth mark on my face.

But apart from that I'm fine, really.

When I was born, my thumbs were as long as my other fingers. They're still kind of long-ish. Speaking of fingers, mine are very tiny for my age - not as in length, but in width/circumference. They look like a 10 year old's. However, I get compliments on them a lot, and some people have even suggested that I should look into hand modeling.

My feet are kind of abnormal too. There is a very large gap between my big toes and my 2nd toes, and my big toes are shorter than my 2nd toes. Also, my toes are bent at strange angles and have enlarged joints. They don't hurt unless I try to bend them in a direction that they don't want to go.

I was born with congenital hip dysplasia. It was corrected by a brace and I was walking by the tail end of the normal range at 14 months. Not a really big deal. It probably had something to do with my being born breech. I am still somewhat hypermobile.

Tenzin has very serious food and environmental allergies, asthma, and I think Multiple Chemical Sensitivity because he cannot tolerate any of the medicine that we've been trying to control his asthma.

So far noone has been able to help us pinpoint the core problem.

I clicked three items in the list, then hit submit and realized I was supposed to only check one. Anyway, here are mine. But first, I was delivered by emergency C-section because I got tangled up in the cord and was going through oxygen deprivation.

When I was in high school it was discovered I had a heart murmor. Interesting is that this hadn't been detected before. I also have an irregular heartbeat.

When I was learning to walk, one of my legs began turning inward (foot turning inward) and I had to wear corrective shoes for awhile.

When I was a child one side of my sternum stuck out more than the other---it was noticeable. It kind of evened out over the years.

I was born without a whole part of the left nasal cavity. I look normal from the outside and eventually it formed, but I had unbelievable nosebleeds for a long time and have a very poor sense of smell. Cleft lip and palette have appeared in my family - a couple of generations back, so I don't know if it's maybe related to that.

I also have mitral valve prolapse, a murmur and arrhythmia. My most recent heart episode was today. :( I suppose I was born with those but later I developed asthma and severe food allergies that require me to have an epipen.

Lets see:

Congestive Heart Problems
Enlarged Heart
80% Kidney Function
Near Sighted
Flat Feet
Thick Bone Structure
Severe Cross Bite
Acid Reflux
High Fevers
I Over Heat Easily

I am all mess upped. My birth was normal and uninvetful its most likely the only thing I ever done right. :P

1st metatarsal abnormality. Needs to be corrected with surgery.
Flat feet.
Toes turn inward.
Fingers like tree branches.
Lazy eye.
Poor spatial awareness. Not sure how close/ far away something is.
Vestibular/balance problems.
IBS.
Rapid heartbeat.

They put me in an incubator too so obviously something went wrong after birth.

Oh I thought this was about abnormalities at birth than after birth.

I got ear infections and fevers a lot and got hearing loss. I had tubes put in so I could hear again. I also had my adnoids (sp) taken out and my tonsils because they kept getting infected. Now I am hard of hearing even though my hearing is normal and sounds may sound the same to my ears. But yet I can still hear TVs on no sound.

I used to get hives too in my middle childhood but they stopped.

I also wear glasses which is normal.

I used to have hormone problems so I was way too emotional and I had irregular periods so they came like every two weeks than four. Plus they were very heavy and once I got put on birth control, my periods became regular and lighter and I wasn't as emotional and sensitive.

And I have something else but it might not be appropriate to mention.

My sense of smell is below average I suspect because other people seem to have a better sense of smell than me. I just embrace it and see it as a gift, at least smells won't bother me as much nor notice what other people are smelling while it won't bother me. But it has it's cons so it's a double edge sword. I may not even realize I am drinking sour milk or eating food that is getting bad. I have to see mold to know or something else growing or the color changing.

Looks like nothing's common so far - except for options I didn't include.
I was hoping for some sort of pattern. I like patterns.
