Anyone able to give me an idea about what to expect with this drug?
anyone have any stories?

my doctor just unexpectedly switched me from Paxil to Zoloft.
Gave some reason along the lines of that she'd been hearing some negative things about Paxil recently or something like that :?
but whatever.

Anyways, i've been on Zoloft for about a week now.

Hopefully you weren't on Paxil long. That ruined my Junior year in high school and turned me into a crying suicidal paperweight. Zoloft... I've taken but don't really remember alot about it. I took it during my teenage years when I was having to experiment with different antidepressants. I just remember it tastes bitter if you bite down on the pill and if you don't eat anything with it you'll get very nauseous. I don't recall it working for me much but it didn't have any bad side effects that I remember. Realistically medication has different effects on different people though so it may or may not have negative side effects for you.

It gave me mood swings, but that is no guarantee it will happen or won't happen to you.

amazingly something just occurred to me.
my GF takes zoloft too, and recently she had to get a cancerous stomach tumor removed and is now going through chemo.
so on an impulse i just spent the last 45 minutes or so, looking up any connections between SSRI's and cancer.
Oddly enough one site with a very detailed list of zoloft side-effects mentioned that it can possibly cause gastric polyposis (stomach polyps) which in turn can become malignant and potentially cancerous.
http://www.theroadback.org/zoloft-withdrawal.aspx <-- (link to detailed list)
My GF's unusually young (20) to be developing any kind of cancerous tumors naturally;
usually it's the middle-aged to elderly who get this kind of cancer.

so i begin to wonder if the Zoloft may possibly have caused it :?

i guess it's already been established that SSRI's can 'cause some gastro-intestinal bleeding (among other various gastro-intestinal troubles), more likely so if taken with any kind NSAID (aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.), so somehow i'm not entirely as surprised as i might be in retrospect...

crazy what all those medications out there can do to a persons system, that they don't warn you about on the label.
So many possible side effects, even if not all of them are very common, they can still happen i guess.

It increases Serotonin, which can elevate your mood and lessen anxiety to some extent.

It's the same thing as Paxil for the most part.

Zoloft (sertraline) has worked really well for me. The only side effects I have had are some dry mouth and increased sweating. Both of these have been at tolerable level for me.

It made me feel as if I wasn't in my body. A weird feeling. I had the dosages tinkered with but it either made me feel more floaty or did nothing at all. I eventualy flushed my perscription and never had it refilled.

My NP at Kaiser floated that idea to me today to help alleviate my social anxiety. No thanks, I took SSRIs in high school and it worsened my AS.

I'll stick to marijuana.

I got a weird zapping feeling and noise that radiated out from the centre of my body out to my fingers and toes like a wave and it would last about 30 seconds then start over. That was the 3rd and last day I took it! The 2 days before that I just felt sick.

I'm on Zoloft now. At first, I was crazy full of energy and couldn't sit still. I'd have trouble getting to sleep because I would still be wired.
It's gotten a lot better now, and I just feel it the odd time.
Other than that just dry mouth and increased sweating I think.
But I think it's working pretty well for me.

I took the generic Sertraline for about a month and it was worse than not being on any meds at all. I was withdrawn, tired, moody, more panic prone, and just overall miserable. I couldn't even go to work most of the time. There were also the headaches and "zaps", like electric shocks in my head...weird.

There were also the vivid dreams.

This doesn't happen to everyone I'm sure, but I usually have adverse effects to generic drugs, especially if they're head related.

wow, that's weird.
it's been a week already and so far nothing like that, which i'm kinda glad about.
no other weird symptoms thusfar either.
in fact, i don't even feel too remarkably different moodwise either, except maybe a bit calmer.
apart from what might simply be chalked up to the placebo effect *shrug*. Hard to say

I've taken Zoloft on and off for 11 years and have found it helpful with depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and OCD.

While it helps to regulate my mood and meltdowns, allowing me to function at work, it also makes me nauseous, kills my appetite, causes insomnia and exacerbates my GERD. This means I take other drugs (e.g Gravol, Zantac) to counteract the side effects of Zoloft.

The report from my Asperger's diagnosis recommended a medication review for me. The evaluating psychologist felt that Zoloft may not be the best drug for me (makes sense since the doctors who prescribed it did so before the AS dx).

So while it can be helpful, make sure that the doctor who prescribed you Zoloft is aware of your AD/AS and any related disorders.
