I've said this before here 8O , but I get down - crying  - about " never getting to go to college " , not in the " true "/" all-out " way - And , as for now , my health , my money , stability , and the whereabouts of my previous records all render it IMPOSSIBLE :( now , maybe if I had lots of money/someone to help me---
When I was 18 I brought it up to my mother , she said " Oh , no ! First you have to prove you deserve to go away to college ! " I remember it like it was yesterday :( ...

Dude, you live in Berkeley. Man up, fill out a FAFSA and go to Diablo Valley College or Berkeley City College for a few years and take your GE courses - just make sure you get accomodations via DSS. Then, depending on GPA you can apply to UC Berkeley, SFSU, Cal State East Bay - all within public transit distance of Berkeley.

Yes, it'll be hard. Yes, you'll have a bear of a time socializing. Yes, it's doable. But since you're homeless, it could be a little more difficult since EOPS funds are almost non existant and you need to have reliable access to a computer.

I hate to sound like a jerk. However, I really don't think a college education is going to help you when your on the verge of being homeless....at age 50

Look, if you are REALLY that desperate.....just ask for money on here which is fine.

Well, why don't you start taking a class or two at your local community college, if for nothing but personal growth.

If you wan to go, search out a way to make it happen. You can't call it quits before you at least try. When I first brought it up to my family that I was considering going back to school the first thing they said was "make sure you can afford it" but honestly I can't afford not to go back.

You should do some checking out in community centers, human services, and shelters. Places like that have programs and funding set up to help people get back to school so they can go further in the work force. See if there is a CareerLink in your area when I went to them a couple years back when I was homeless also they told me about options to get me back to school to help me get back on my feet.

There are options, sometimes they're not out right in the open but they are out there and if you want it bad enough do a little digging and you can get there. And there are people out there who can help you achieve where you want to go but you have to go out and find them as well.

Don't give up.

Boo-hoooo  Let me guess you are going to start asking people to help you with money for college. Or are you going to make your story so pathetic people will start offering you money?

I think it might be better for him to focus on finding a place to live and an stable food supply before worrying about getting a degree......

I do like his angle.(Warning: I will sound like an ass)

1.) I'm another aspie who couldn't handle college.

2.) That's why I'm homeless now

3.) Send me money for college.........even though I don't have access to life's necessities which I will kind of need to survive during college

I really doubt any of us are this dumb. I felt sorry for you in the homeless thread. However, this just makes no dam sense. I can see that one 30 year old's perspective

My parents took out a second mortgage and MADE me go to college. The joke's on them, though. They're paying off the student loans for something that didn't help me get anywhere, because I wasn't able to take full advantage of it.
Sounds like your family could see that you probably weren't cut out for it. I wish mine had too.

Yup!

It's the same 'one trick pony' act that he's pulling in the "I'm going to be homeless - won't someone bank role my drug habit" thread.

I'm sorry your life hasn't been what you've hoped for, and that you haven't found the help you believe you need. I'm sorry your mother wasn't there for you in the way you wanted or needed her to be. But ... it is hard to know if that one thing would have made that much difference. Sometimes it is a snowball, just a ton of tiny things. So, you start with one tiny change and hope that can snowball the other way.
