I cannot figure out math at all for some reason. I also learn things but I never go out to par when I actually have to do them. Taking directions I can't do. Anything with logic I am bad at except for Chess for some reason. Is there any way to practice logic or anything that I should practice? I feel like everybody is good at math except for me. I have been stuck in the same math class for about two years...I have to finish high school but I am unteachable.

I dont know why you have this trouble, so maybe I cant help, but I can tell you that I had the problem in e.g. maths, that I needed to understand everything, that means every formula etc., until a class mate thought me that I have to just accept things without understanding them completely. To finish school, this statement was very helpful for me.

I can do math up until algebra then nothing.

Don't worry, I have never, ever, EVER understood maths and went through my entire school life secretly not understanding it, and the teachers could never teach me it properly, because people with Asperger's shouldn't even be going to school because it simply is NOT for our kind. Anyways, I failed horribly at maths but I'm a glad I don't have to do it again... for now.

Also algebra especially is a load of crap. Letters with numbers? WTF???

Yeah I might but that still doesn't help me pass the classes I have been stuck in forever.

I have the strange gift of being able to teach anyone anything, though I've never been able to put it to much use. Mostly I tutor people online for free. Usually someone who's had difficulty with a subject has also developed an emotional resistance to it due to previous bad experiences. When I try to teach a person with an emotional resistance, they will find a million ways to talk about anything besides the subject they are avoiding, even if I asked them to do something they find easy. Frequently it takes several successes and my pointing out their success for them to get the idea that putting any effort into it is paying off. After that they act amazed at why nobody ever explained it to them that way, in a way they could understand.

Algebra in a nutshell.

The letters are variables.

Variables can be whatever number you choose.

If you wanted to draw a line on a graph you would say y=m*x+b

m = the slope, or however many across it takes to go up however many.

x = the horizontal position you want to find the vertical point at.

b = the starting position on the y-intercept (x=0)

Let's try y = (1/2) * x + 4

x | y

1 | 4.5
2 | 5
3 | 5.5
...
100 | 54

How did I get that table? I just substituted my x variable with each of the numbers in the x column.

(1/2) * 1 + 4 = .5 + 4 = 4.5
(1/2) * 2 + 4 = 1 + 4 = 5
(1/2) * 3 + 4 = 1.5 + 4 = 5.5
(1/2) * 100 + 4 = 50 + 4 = 54

Coldkick, I hope you were joking. That doesn't even make sense to me, and I've passed college level algebra.

If I could figure out a way to exchange math on the internet, I'd offer to tutor you for free myself. Some people are also willing to do free or low-cost private tutoring as a volunteer service. You could see if your parents would advertise for someone like that on a college bulletin board or for a good math student in a higher grade at your high school. Often another student can understand why you don't understand something, why you're stuck, better than an older teacher can.

I actually understood what he wrote. Maybe I should just stop trying to use my ears and just read it straight from the book.

That's how I learn I have to learn Math.

I have to see it all, step by step in a book. And practice. I cannot learn math through a teacher.

You may be the same. You need a good book!

I hated how my math books in school would always give the easier problems as examples instead of the harder math problems.

I also don't like how the harder problems are extra stuff that we never even learned.
