My Mother took a residential course in EFT a few years ago and offers it too people on a donation basis rather than a fee. She has absolutely phenomenal success with it and clients often come away stunned by what has happened. Usually she is able to resolve things in one hour long session. She keeps suggesting she does it on me but, you know how it is, sometimes you don't want treated by family members because it's embarrassing. Plus, she would be tapping me but I don't like proximity, never mind someone tapping on me LOL. But, you can learn to do it yourself and one of these days I will do that and give it a try. Judging by how the people who have seen her react, it has a very potent effect.
All the examples I've seen have people teaching each other but not tapping on another person. I have no involvement with other EFT users and use it on myself daily, I'm making great progress with it.

It has also occurred to me that the stimming behaviour of autistics may be an instinctive attempted manipulation of the nervous system in a similar way that EFT and other meridian or 'energy system' based therapies like accupuncture, accupressure and even yoga seek to bring relief

I've not tried it on stimming so don't know if it will improve it. I had considered it but it isn't really a major problem for me. I think my addictions, anxiety, depression, PTSD are enough to be going on with! I don't believe it's related but don't know the advanced theory behind EFT so can't be certain.
Incidentally I never thought of doing EFT on thoughts before. I assumed it would balance out feelings but not thoughts. Last night I was in a bad negative way and did 1minute round of EFT on negative thinking...gone! I don't have accute negative thoughts anymore. I still have some anxiety but everything is much better.
