I’ve failed a fair few goals in my life such as getting a job and having a successful business. Another goal I fail miserably at is keeping my bedroom tidy. Now I’ve been diagnosed Aspergers I’m wondering if this is the reason why I fail to achive such goals?

In hindsight looking back at an old video I failed many goals in my life.

Have you ever failed goals?

Yes, my career is a huge, huge mistake - well really one after another.

Everyone has some goal or other that was not attained. It is the way of things. Our reach tends to exceed our grasp.

Wait a minute, I'm not totally clear... Did you make that video? I'm just going to assume you did. And if so, I, for one, consider you a total genius. :thumright: Awesome at putting together a short and engaging and *funny* little film, and a gifted comedian (even if you might not understand either of these things about yourself). It's hysterical and really well done! I could *never* have done something like that -- even if I had set it as my #1 MUST ACHIEVE GOAL! Let me ask you this: any chance that you're going through life achieving all sorts of cool things and not even realizing it???

Yeah, most of them. But, I'm the only one who beats myself up over it. And, as I look back, I'm starting to realize that most of my goals were simply inappropriate for me. They were designed to change who I was into who I wanted to be in some sort of completely unrealistic way. I don't mean to suggest that anyone give up his dreams because he's an Aspie. But, if you suck at math and science and are terrified to fly, then don't set your sights on becoming an astronaut. Set goals in light of who you are and a proper assessment of your strengths and weaknesses. You're far more likely to achieve those -- and achieve satisfaction in life -- that way.

Yes, all the time. So much so, I stopped making them. I just go with the flow for the most part and it makes life much easier. Why sweat the little s**t. Life is too short.

Loads of unreached goals, failed is a other thing - I just adjusted them in a other timeframe or put goals in-between to make the journey a bit more comfortable.

Don't push yourself to much, reaching the goal like getting a job and have a succesfull business is also possible after 21.

My current main goals are:
- Obtaining a life partner (looking what I look for in a partner-->dating--> lenghty
relationships-->possibly marriage and children?)
- Getting common sense back into the world, starting in my own country (Getting my
Propedeuse for Social Work-->Doing Bachelor of Humanistics on University Grade-->Doing
Master of Humanistics on University Grade-->Working as an advisor/counselor on national
level, growing influence, knowledge and perspective as time passes-->Getting common
sense mainstream in The Netherlands-->Going global).

This is a rough outlining and things might change overtime, but these are my main life goals atm. Not setting a timer for it other then before I die or atleast leave a legacy to build on.

Reaching your given goals, you could ask yourself the following questions:
- Keeping my bedroom tidy (Why do I keep my bedroom tidy, Why is my bedroom such a
mess everytime?)
- Getting a job (What kind of job do I want to do?, What can I do already and/or have degree
on?, Where does it go wrong in getting a job? Where does it go right (aspects of it)?,
Where can I get help for this if I can't do it myself?)
- Having a succesfull business (What kind of business do I want to run?, Do I want to do it alone or with a business partner?, Where can I go for help and pointers about having a succesfull business?)

I hope the given information helps, love to hear about your thoughts on it. :)

Oh and please, don't dredge yourself in self-pity - It mainly leads to worse situations :skull:

Cheerfully,
Wallourdes

Agree. In some cases, going to a backup plan (a new plan) can work.

You only fail when you believe you have. So, yeah, you've failed, by your own choice.

I failed to do well at school and failed to get into univeristy, there's no positive thinking that's going to fix that. If you set a goal and it's no longer possible to achieve it, it's a fail.

You could go retake your courses if you wanted, it's not impossible to achieve it at all.
