Probably because 'they' do not know what causes autism. It's pretty hard to find a solution if you don't know where your problem is.

there aren't drugs for any mental or neurological conditions. just ones that kinda work. they are far from ideal and there is a hidden agenda that the pharmaceutical companies would obviously like to sell as much as possible.

I have found a drug that works very effectively and gives me no negative side effects. It is called wine. It's over the counter.

Because autism can be ambiguous (why else is it diagnosed for some people beyond the age of 18 ).

Because of resistance from people with Aspergers, fighting against a supposed cure.

Because Autism and Asperger's isn't like other disorders; There are some positives that can come from it, alongside the negatives. Because this fact isn't taken advantage of (early intervention), other disorders get in the way, then making it seem like there are only negatives to it.

I'm beginning to think a cure is improbable. As well as, the wrong approach.

Some of us have tried B6, zinc, magnesium, carnosine, folic acid, B12, TMG/DMG, methionine, diet, exercise, and had good results. Some have had no change, and a few have an adverse reaction. For many, the best drug is interaction with kindred spirits.

Maybe they're waiting for the school year to begin? People are on vacation and have other things to do. Once the school year starts, then it's medication for everybody. That's known as a sales cycle.

(just guessing)

(...and kidding a little...)

Because of the aspies who make it clear that they don't want a cure like myself, for example.

If you just want a drug that will alter the way you think and behave, almost any drug will do. Expect side effects, they all have them.

If you want a cure for the way you think and behave, try a lobotomy.

I'm sorry you dislike yourself so much that you feel the need for something that will change you, I don't have that problem. Despising the rest of humanity works better for me. They're the ones that need changing.

I don't want a drug. I want acceptance and freedom to be myself and do the things that I love.

Yes, there is this. And there is art therapy, which is a beautiful thing.

I wonder how many people wouldn't take medication if it was available?

I take stimulants. I never thought they'd do anything but they work pretty damn well. And it's only for 6 hours. I get to turn back into my normal sloth self. If there's medication that eases an autistic symptom that's causing me grief then I would take it. It won't mean I'm cured, it'll just mean I could experience what life is like without said symptom for a couple of hours.

I don't know if I would take a drug that purported to cure me if I was offered it. yes, AS has negative aspectsto it but then even a casual observation of NT shows that they don't have it all sunshine and rainbows either.

The drug might take away my AS but then it might also completely change my personality, because how do you really know where AS ends and you begin? Plus, who's to say that the changes it would stimulate in you would be for the better? I think it's a case of thinking the grass is always greener on the other side: I'm sure the parts of my personality which I don't like would still be there regardless of whether my AS is or not, and I just need to work on those instead of hoping some wonder drug will do it for me (which they won't as I've taken enough illegal ones in the past to know).

This may not be the 'correct' answer that you want, but I did find a drug. It's called music. Decide who your favourite band or performer is, buy their music and listen to it.

That's kind of where I was going with the "art therapy" thing. If you express yourself through an art form or just identify with what someone else does, if their art resonates with you, that can be very healing.

I'd like to try art therapy. I've always enjoyed art. What kind of things do you do in those classes?
