Do you sometimes like to do things your own way rather than following someone elses directions for the experience on seeing how things will turn out and learning from it?

Yes. Very annoying to any teachers I have.

I'm constantly doing things my own way without listening to the advice and directions of others.(need I mention a certain flash frozen dog?) Often my stubborn and often wrong assumption that mine is the only correct way leads to disaster and/or parts left over..

Yes. Actually, that sounds intriguing enough that a full explanation is required. :)

It depends. I rarely look at instruction manuals when it comes to assembaling things, but then I'm fairly gifted in that area.

If I'm working for someone, I will generally do things the way they direct me to, however I draw the line with micromanagers.

I worked at once place, the manager got upset to find that when I clicked on a file in the file directory, I clicked on the name and not the icon next to the name. Despite the fact that I had been doing this since I first started using Windows in the 90's without any problems, she insisted I click on the icon because she once accidentally renamed a file by clicking on the name.

Actually, to rename a file by clicking on the name, first requires you click on it in a manner slower than the double click setting. Then you must type something on the keyboard, or select the past function with the alternate mouse button and, in other words, if you manage to do that, you either must be very inexperienced with a mouse, or not paying attention.

Ultimately her micromanagement slowed me down and I was glad to leave that place. Inept bosses make inept workers.

yes, totally. My parents were the kind who were constantly telling me what i should and shouldnt do, or rather what i can and cant do. I always thought even as a 10 year old that I should be allowed to do what i want and learn from my mistakes first hand rather than just listen to my parents. To me them telling me all that were just words, i didnt take anything from it...I was off at college on my own for nearly 3 years and Ive made mistakes and learned from them- it was much more educational than my parents spouting wisdom at me.

i also resent being told what to do at work if I believe that my way is more efficient., so yes im totally like you.

Whenever I bring an electronic device home from Best Buy, I prefer to get it working myself, and it takes less time, that way.

I love dogs. I mean, I really love dogs. I used to do rescue and have placed 600 dogs, personally. If anybody is gonna be upset by that thread, it is me. I literally laughed till I cried. I will never look at popsicles the same way again! That thread is truly epic, and deserves to be stickied! Never mind stickied - that needs to go viral. Hmmmmmmmmm . . . . (muttering to self: where's the best place to post a link to that?) </ threadjack >

Most people are unable to give complete and detailed instructions on what they want you to do. This leads to unneccessary confusion. Leave me alone or tell me exactly what you want and dont let my mind wander the vast expanses of space while I attempt to fulfill your wishes

There are some things I rather do on my own because I'm quite the problem solver but when it comes to following step by step instructions I need those instructions. Like cooking for example. I'm not just going to throw whatever I think is best in. I need instructions. And when I put my telescope together I almost broke it even though I did follow the instructions. I missed a few steps in there.

I only do this in areas where I feel I am an expert in. For example, I've been learning to draw since I can remember being able to hold a pencil correctly. I'm self taught although I have taken drawing courses in school and that's where I went and did my own thing. Sometimes I think I can be a bit overconfident though and in those courses would even add my own spin on the assignment. I realize from standing further back that even though what I drew was very good... I could have been given an awful grade if the teacher wanted to be mean. Really though it is often that I feel more experienced than the instructor that I feel I'd rather go off on my own to try and learn new techniques. I frequently teach myself new styles and methods that I still haven't seen a teacher teach. I think it's because they are fairly advanced techniques and I've not taken an expert course in drawing yet. I really want to go to a school that can teach me things about drawing that I don't know yet... Then I'm very positive I'll be very content with following the directions :)
