I will try to keep this from being too long if I can. I'm hoping it will help anyone in doubt to see what an Aspie can do. Yesterday a young man collapsed from the heat and stopped breathing. My daughter ran to help while I dialed 911. After we got his head tilted back to open his airway, she took the phone, followed instructions and performed CPR. This young man had started to turn blue, but soon he started to breath again and started to get his color back. It took a long time for the ambulance to get there, and I think he might have died waiting. Our neighbor let us know later that the young man is going to be all right.

I told my daughter, "You saved a life today." She just shrugged and smiled a little. But to me she's a hero. She doesn't always think very highly of herself, and has had a lot of difficulties, but I'm very impressed with how she handled the situation. She was calm the whole time and didn't waste a moment. I tried to tell her some people might panic and not be able to do that, but I don't think she believes it.

I just had to share it.

yes you should be proud, your daughter did a good thing and good for her....but this discussion was had by others on another forum..she took and followed directions..this is every aspies dream to be given clear instructions and follow them we can function under these conditions.......i need to ask as was pointed out to me..if an aspie doesnt know how to react or was in a similar situation without instructions..what we she do?
i dont wan to rain on your pride but the next part of this thread is to see if you were stopped breathing and no phone what would happen?

the end result was that all aspies should be traine din life ssaving, cpr first aid etc...as they will be the people who when they know what is expected of them will respond calmy and cooly as we wont have emotions messing us up in a crises..she done well but for the next time?

all aspes need trainign at these things as when we have we are the best in a crisis, but without it we have no idea rwally.

good luck

Thats wonderful, alot of people nowadays with all the fear of diseases would rather let someone die, then perform C.P.R. Your daughter is deffinately a keeper.

Donkey brought up a good point that we should all know CPR and basic first aid. I agree and think NTs ought to do that too. There may not always be a phone handy. Luckily we both had been shown CPR a long time ago, but hope to take the course and get certified. Since we did have the phone and wanted to be sure to do it right, she chose to have them talk her through it. Something else good to know is that there is a type of shield available that can be used if you are afraid of catching something. Also-CPR has to be done a little differently with infants and small children or they can be injured, that is the type I had concentrated on learning.

Thank you all for the nice feedback. :)
