I found out today that rocking back and forth really helps me. About half of the time I feel as if ants are crawling in my blood vessels and my body itches and twitches. By rocking I can dull these uncomfortable feelings and it calms me down

Does anyone else find rocking helpful?

Yes, I do. A lot of people with ASDs do, although I think it can be calming for anyone, hence why we rock babies to sleep.

When the going gets tough and life gets tough for me, I like to rock myself to sleep, and not in the musical sense.

You only just realized this? Are you sure you haven't been doing it unconsciously all along and only noticed it recently? I can't remember a time when I didn't stim almost constantly. It was less noticeable when I was a small child and spent more time actively playing, but even then I spent a lot of time on a swingset. By the time I hit puberty it was almost nonstop unless I'm concentrating on a task.

I usually fidget like mad, scratching myself and changing position a lot. I have stimmed for my whole life, but not rocking until now

I sway back and forth unconsciously. Sometimes people make fun of me for this. I hate them very much.

I usually rock when I am upset, but I have also been known to rock when happy, but overstimulated/overwhelmed.

I rock when I'm nervous or overstimulated. It feels good.

I rock sometimes because it calms me down when I'm feeling a bit off. However, I also rock when I read things for an entire group and get way too into the actual story.

Yeah, I rock when I'm excited or somehow need comfort. I find swinging similar to rocking and I do that frequently.

I rock all the time. I usually do it without even consciously realizing I'm doing it.

Absolutely. I used to try to hide it, but have ended up grinding my teeth destructively in it's place. Having been in a wheelchair for almost 10 years (paraplegic), I am not self-conscious about rocking anymore, so I simply do so; no more teeth grinding. I literally rock n roll now.

What exactly is "Rocking "? Its one of the most common symptoms and im not sure what it is. is it like bobbing your head when listening to music, but with your whole body? if so I do that sometimes because it relieves anxiety but try not too because it looks weird.

I frequently switch my sitting, standing, laying positions and tap my legs but thats prob more my ADHD than AS.
