I still have to wait a week for the formal written dx, but my specialist said that she's very confident AS is exactly right.
I went to Damar, which is a place that specializes in ASD in kids and adults, as I was thinking AS was what fit, and was so tired of everyone wanting to focus on my "traumatic" childhood and my "denial" of my emotions about it all.
It makes so much sense, and I'm looking forward to working with them to improve my social skills. I personally love my life and am usually very happy, but my husband (NT, but with some PTSD and depression issues) and I have a 1-year-old daughter who we'd like to homeschool. I worry about my ability to help her learn good, functioning social skills in any setting, but especially one with potentially limited social avenues.
It was a very simple eval- self-evaluation that was very similar to some of the online tests, developmental background, and I answered a lot of questions. She was able to tell a lot just by talking with me- eye contact, stims, etc. She told me before we began that if she was doubtful of AS being a possibility that she would have me come back for the whole shebang- IQ testing, ADOS-y stuff. I was sad that I didn't get to tell her all the animals I know that begin with any given letter, but told her how long it takes light to get from the sun to the earth, just in case she was wondering.
Dunno. It feels weird to finally know for sure, but it makes so much sense, and explains so much. It explains a lot of issues in my marriage (that I thought was awesome bc I didn't see that my husband wasn't getting many of his needs met) and I'm really glad I did it.
(You can see my past posts for my initial query to the board.)
That's all!
