I've read it's common for autistic people to be immature for their age so I'm asking this here mainly based on hearing it has relevance to autism.

I guess my real question is do you feel your age or do you feel older or younger?

For me I have a hard time describing myself. I'm not a 16 year old in a 23 year old's body, but in certain aspects that's how I feel. What I mean is I'm much smarter than I was at 16 and have much more wisdom than I had at 16... not to mention I have a better outlook on life. I very much feel 23 and have above average intelligence and insight when it comes to my age, but my interests haven't changed a bit since I was 16. I'm still fascinated with fantasy, video games, and the same old rock bands. I'm terrible with adult responsibilities due to carelessness and forgetfulness and would probably be considered a bit reckless for my age in an adult world sense... although mostly reckless out of fear. The responsibilities I have now have to be accompanied by reminders or help to get them accomplished. I don't know that I really like this about me so much. I feel childish and really with that feel there are many things I'm not capable of that I wish I was :?

Edit: I probably should have phrased the poll question differently. Please only answer the poll if you are autistic in some way

On the inside, I feel much like I did 30 years ago. It's very strange.

On the outside I wonder who the hell that old man is in the mirror

I look a lot younger than I am and in some aspects I feel it, but I think I'm getting closer to feeling my age, or at least having an appropriate level of wisdom.

I feel like I should be an adult. I look older than my age and feel I'm more mature than my peers.

I don't "feel" younger exactly, it's just when I see myself in my head it's always the preteen version of me. This is the default image for me that sometimes when I talk to a fellow grown-up (especially one dressed in a business suit) I forget that I'm an equal rather than someone who doesn't know better. That's why it's always awkward when we stand up and I find out that I have to look down rather than look up.

I know I am immature for my age and also look much younger (I am 27 but look like in my teens). In other ways though some of my interests and physical problems indicate old age. I have memory loss already, hot flashes and my body aches. For my interests I am obsessed with the news particularly world news just like an older person. So I have aspects of both feeling old and feeling young so I didn't answer the poll. I don't have or do anything that is like a 27 year old though just both older and younger.

I am already in my 20s and I still feel like/want to be a teenager.

I do feel 18. I feel like I'm just coming out of being a teenager and heading into being an adult. I think I'm this mature because my friends have played a large part.

All of the above.

In some aspects such as taking responsibility for my actions or thinking philosophically, I seem to be "older" than my age. But I constantly resist settling down to one career and sticking with it until I die. I still want to play with my cameras or make goofy, unimportant films. I can really relate to Tom Wait's song "I don't Wanna Grow Up"

And perhaps I look a bit older than I am. Anyway, one of my nieces asked me why I looked older than my older brother.

I don't really feel any age. In some ways I'm much more mature than the average 18-year-old, but in other ways (i.e. socially) I'm at a younger level.

I can't pick any one result.

My back and neck are absolutely messed up (I may as well be 40-50 in that regard)
I'm in shape for my age (so I may as well be my age)
I consider myself very responsible and mature, more so than pretty much anyone I've ever known (my family is a mess)
I am childlike in a sense that I like to have fun, I see that as a good thing though.
Most of my friends are 5-20 years older than me so I'm socially older

Not remotely. I'm getting old really quickly.

Been told I look extremely innocent and I feel young and still have young-ish interests (e.g. rock music, mountain biking), but I also feel old in terms of wisdom and knowledge (most of it accumulated from special interest obsessions). So basically a mixed bag, but I'm 27 and I guess that's a pretty awkward age for most people as it has elements of both youth and adulthood.

I still prefer skate shoes and somewhat baggy pants, whereas others my age are leaning more towards shoes and shirts with a smart leather belt. I feel extremely claustrophobic in such formal/semi-formal clothing (especially suits).
