Its occured to me recently that I truly hate attention. I nearly feel like punching people when they turn the attention on me. You know when you walk into a room of people who are sitting around socialising and you'd rather drive a nail through your kneecap than join them then theres 1 person who announces your entry, they'll say something like "THERE HE IS" then all attention gets turned on you. God I hate people who do this. I can rapidly get the attention off me by giving a quick, disrespectful answer to the question that always seems to follow this. Last time this happened was earlier, my uncle did it so when all the heads turned towards me, I did a little tap dance then continued on my business and ignored all subsequent attempts of people to lure me into a conversation. A bit of humour goes a long way when it comes to things like this cuz if they see you joking then they won't assume you're sad or angry so won't try to make you feel better or anything like that. Also when you're funny about it they wont think you're being rude or offensive, they'll just think your crazy or something. Someone should write a tutorial on diverting attention away from yourself for people with aspergers.

Same here. I feel very uncomfortable and shy when people give me attention.

I absolutely hate attention, in College, I'm always normally the last one there because I'm slow at getting ready for the day. I walk in and the entire class stares at me for ages, like a cow stares at an oncoming train. I hate it I tells ya!! The only time I would ever want attention is if one day I do a massive speach in front of a ton of people and tell them straight about Asperger's and how tough life is!!

Yeah same here, I'm in late all the time cuz I hate standing around like a prick outside the class when I get there early. Again its the socialising part that gets me, everyone else is standing around talking and I feel weird being the only one not talking. I can ignore people easily when I'm walking into a lecture room cuz at least theres nobody announcing my entrance. Unless of course the lecturer announces it lol. Thats never happened to me, I'd hold a grudge against the lecturer if they did that.

I don't like having all the attention, it just makes me feel comfortable, especially when it gets to so many people I don't know, it's rather nerve wrecking, I must say.

Attention = hate it.

I loose cognitive function quickly when all eyes are on me.

It depends on why the attention is on me.

I like it sometimes, but it usually feels somewhat 'dangerous'.

Ugh yeah, I hate attention.;;; I mean it's nice that people wanna give me attention sometimes, but I wish there was something else they could give instead.
Unless it's my best friends, I am comfortable with their attention.

I'd make a distinction between attention directed toward me as a person and that directed toward a position I hold or role I'm playing. I hate personal attention, but for many years I served as a tour guide and did public speaking before local government bodies and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Somehow the role I was playing was unaffected by my personal shyness.

Ugh, it seems like the more I try to stay under the radar, the more people notice me. People seem to notice when someone doesn't talk. It's bizarre. They always have to call me out. :evil: Just leave me alone!

Yes, I even manage to have difficulty posting online, for fear of a post being singled out for one reason or another and not wanting to respond to the comments etc.

I don't like attention, but I like expressing myself. Kind of a disparity, isn't it. I think the reason why I don't like attention is because I'm not ever sure whether the attention is negative or positive.

Dito. when i'm playing gigs, (obviously) people's eyes are all over me and it feels intimidating but they're only looking at me how i'd look at another live band. sometimes i wish they'd just listen cos i'm pretty static on stage

I like to attract positive attention to myself. I don't like negative attention.
